Most car industry reaction seems to focus on more incentives for private buyers to choose an electric car. So, what are the priorities?
- Do we need more range from EVs?
- Do they need to be cheaper?
- Does the charging network need more work?
- Is it something else?

Industry reaction from the NFDA, SMMT and more broadly supports the move, but notes that more needs to be done to encourage electric car sales among consumers.
In March, EV sales accounted for just over 15% of the total – well behind the ZEV mandate target.
- The ZEV mandate targets themselves won't change, but car makers can transfer credits towards them in-between cars and vans.
1 electric van sale = 2 electric car credits
1 electric car sale = 0.4 electric van credits
- Small-volume manufacturers including Aston Martin and McLaren will be protected from the toughest ZEV mandate targets of 80% EV sales by 2028
This could be welcome news for those brands, who prevously had little way to meet the targets.
