My friend's husband died unexpectedly last year and he said something that struck me. I wished I could ease his pain and he said, basically, "no thank you, that pain is *mine* and i want it as a memento of our love".

Not even something as abstract as being human. That grief is the mark of love.

So many issues with this.
First: What do these people get out of being alive? You can't have a meaningful experience with someone you loved like this. It's monstrous to suggest otherwise.
It's inhuman; tech's emotional predation on grief and separation anxiety is a best case scenario here.

acknowledging that this oversimplifies things a bit, but:

Barack Obama would not have become president if not for the fact that he opposed Bush's reckless war and Hillary Clinton supported it. That simple fact was important enough to enough people to swing the primary.

orson welles was told that he should give his father an ultimatum: stop drinking or i won't see you anymore. he did. his father died soon after. he went to his grave thinking it was his fault. i guess i'm saying, grief is a part of life. you can't avoid it any more than you can dodge raindrops.

I'm grieving for my son & I miss him so very much, but I love him & I don't want it 'cured' (like bacon is cured, or leather?), I want it respected. Grief is sacred, it's deep, personal & truly human. You can't fight it, or wall if off, or pretend it away without cutting out your own heart

There's a quote I adore (and know too well) that goes: "What is grief, if not love persevering". If you grieve, you loved! Why would you want to "cure" love? You'd only cure it by lobotomizing yourself until you feel nothing at all anymore, and at that point, why even be alive? It's so ghoulish.
