Grey catbird perched in a mock orange bush. He's very bold and comes within a few feet of me to squawk if I'm out in the garden. I could have adjusted the colors, but I like the unfiltered look (as usual) #nativeplants #gardening #birdsky #gardenbuddies

The larger bed is straight species: silky dogwood, sassafrass, winterberry, ninebark, button bushes, and viburnum. Lots of perennial flowers, the tall coreopsis gets to like 7 feet! This is a newer bed so the trees/shrubs are still small. They replaced very large Norway spruce trees

Under our power line we have chokecherry, which takes a hard pruning in stride. Not sure they're native south of us though. Then a few sassafrass, and on the end away from the lines is an ash we'll have to remove when the borers find it but for now it's okay. Understory is assorted flowers

I've got a mixed hedge and a small privacy/noise screen. Small trees and bushes, but mostly much taller than your current hedge. Are you looking for something evergreen to replace the privet?

How do the longer beans taste? Do they have small/no seeds? We grew yardlong beans a few years ago, talk about super productive! We weren't fans of them, but many folks love them. I still have most of the seeds if you want to try them.
