Once you've got batteries/vehicles that can handle the charge rates, scaling up the charging stations is fairly cheap. The hard bit with fast charging is not exploding, and that's mostly on the battery/vehicle side.

Not overkill. For a lot of commercial applications, fast charging is make-or-break. Think heavy equipment that's losing money if it's not running.
