Worth adding here that the FBI waited *years* to declare open war on the Black Panther Party, assassinating & incarcerating its leaders en masse. The thing that tipped the balance wasn't the guns, but the free breakfasts, groceries, & clinics that represented a genuine threat to state power.

I'm reminded of all of the bullshit that BLM, antifascist, & civil rights protestors have been charged with possessing as "weapons" or for "assaulting" the officers kicking the shit out of them. As with the guns, these are pretexts for state violence against groups for actually supporting equality.
