I greatly admire Palestine Action. The only "terror" they've caused is amongst the perpetrators of the Zionist genocide and shareholders of arms companies. More of their nonviolent direct action (frequently found legal by juries) would be good. All should support them.

THURSDAY 29 MAY 2025- Apple Grand Arcade, Cambridge: Workers at Apple Grand Arcade are progressing towards statutory union recognition. The CAC have undertaken a count of union members in the store and have confirmed that 50% of staff are already members of UTAW-CWU. This comes before a ballot campaign has even begun, without a single union official having stepped foot inside the building.
This result clearly demonstrates the strength and desire of workers to be recognised as a bargaining unit to enter into collective bargaining with the company. It also reflects the effective grassroots organising happening amongst workers at the store, and throughout Apple Retail.

Those who are uncomfortable with this Labour immigration announcement, but think it's necessary to satisfy Reform voters, this is for you.

You will not satisfy. You will never satisfy.

The trans pride colours tint a concrete texture. The UTAW logo in black is above the words, "UTAW stands with our trans comrades" and "Read our full statement below". Against the trans pride colours, the following text is displayed above the UTAW logo:

"At UTAW, we’re deeply concerned by the implications that this judgement will have on the LGBT+ community.

We also worry that the rushed and ill-informed guidance that is being released by the Equality and Human Rights commission will cause more serious harm to the trans community - and will likely be unworkable in practice.

We’ll be continuing to campaign and fight for our trans comrades both in the workplace and outside. If you’re having problems at work, talk to your union rep."

We stand with our trans comrades.

RTO mandates are an ideal time for workers to build union membership and power in their workplaces. Groups of workers agitated and put into IRL proximity, by top-down diktats that don't cost to reverse - ideal conditions to do this. Trade unionists must be ready to assist them.

"work from home, forget it" - the attitude of Nigel Farage, Jamie Dimon, Michael Dell, other elites. But if workers can work from home they usually want to, at least some of the time. Institutions (from councils to tech companies to banks) need the cooperation of these workers.

FRIDAY 2 MAY 2025
Apple Grand Arcade, Cambridge

UTAW-CWU Members at Apple Grand Arcade held a meeting with Apple management this morning, mediated by ACAS, to discuss union recognition.

Apple’s representatives demonstrated a complete lack of good faith and refused to agree to a count of union members that would proceed to a ballot of staff in the store. Instead, they attempted to delay the process and waste our time. We offered Apple the opportunity to recognise us on a voluntary basis, which they had no intention of agreeing to. As a result we were unable to continue the discussion.

We will now immediately proceed with the process of statutory recognition with the CAC which we have every confidence we will be successful in due to the strength of our membership.

If the bond market, by increasing the cost of USA sovereign debt, has the power to make the Trump regime climb down - does this disprove MMT? Even for the one example country where it seemed plausible?

I remain skeptical about LLMs as a computing paradigm, but it's very good to see innovations beyond throwing more compute and data at it. Bad for "growth" and investors in extraction of materials / energy / water; less bad for people and planet. And funny to see line go down.

Living Wage Foundation accused of accrediting firms not paying the living wage Airline agency workers kept on minimum wage despite Living Wage Foundation’s fair pay pledge

Living Wage Foundation accused of accrediting firms not paying the living wage - the real story here is this comes to light as the affected workers form a union. Organised workforces ensure pay & conditions better than accreditation schemes, or even labour laws. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Red and white photo of five AWU-CWA union members, all a part of the Google Help Content Creation Team. The member in the middle holds a white piece of paper that reads "Contract" in a gothic font. The words "First Union Contract for Alphabet Workers Union-CWA" are also featured on the image.

Congrats to the Google Help Content Creation Team on being the first group of AWU-CWA workers to secure a union-bargained contract!

A great way to end 2024 and an even greater inspiration for what's to come next year ☃️❄️

Today’s announcement by the Health Secretary of an indefinite ban on puberty blockers for trans young people is a devastating decision. This move disregards the urgent needs of vulnerable young people and flies in the face of Labour’s manifesto commitment to “remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition and acceptance.” Trans young people deserve access to gender-affirming healthcare - not further barriers and stigma.
Puberty blockers have long been used safely for intersex young people, those with precocious puberty and in trans youth. There is no credible evidence to justify banning their use amongst trans youth while allowing them in other contexts. This inconsistency perpetuates harmful double standards for trans young people, undermining their right to make informed decisions about their own healthcare under the principle of Gillick competence.
The indefinite nature of this ban creates an environment of fear and uncertainty, which is already taking a toll on the mental health of trans youth. Reports of increased distress and worsening mental health among young trans people highlight the urgent need for affirming care, not its removal. Young people are currently waiting more than 7 years for a first appointment, and this ban leaves young people with very few options.
Our open letter to the Health Secretary - approaching 10,000 signatures - demonstrates the overwhelming opposition to this policy from members of the Labour Party, LGBTQ+ groups, trade unions, and allies. We call on Wes Streeting to recognise that outright bans on gender affirming care are never the answer and to engage with trans communities, families, and experts in shaping policies that prioritize the dignity and well-being of trans youth.
As Labour members, we stand for equality, inclusion, and evidence-led policy. We will continue to advocate for the reinstatement of access to puberty blockers and a broader overhaul of trans healthcare. Trans lives are not a political battlegrou…
