You know what else gets more expensive when the price of oil goes up? Plastic, and everything that uses it. Which is almost everything.

My letter in the Guardian countering an article by a pro-growth lobbyist from Britain Remade attacking environmental legislation
“Ecologists & conservationists would be surprised by his claim that the UK doesn’t & never will build enough to drive nature loss”

Nine ways extreme events reshape #river #biodiversity
1. They cause selective mortality that erodes genetic diversity
2. Droughts fragment rivers and refuges can become ecological traps
3. Long‑lasting physical legacies reshape habitats
Remembering my dear, radical mother Dinah on #internationalwomensday.
She took @fergus.oolong.co.uk & I to Greenham Common when we were tiny to support the women there, where my first memory of the police was watching them drag a peacefully-resisting woman across the road by her hair

Public service announcement: this is a FOSSIL FUEL CRISIS
Not an 'energy crisis'. People need energy: it keeps them alive. This is a crisis due to forced dependency on the most unreliable and unstable fuel product in human history.
THIS IS A FOSSIL FUEL CRISIS.
It’s already happening. Iran attacked a desalination plant in Bahrain.
This war has to end immediately. If it turns into a water war we will be dealing with a whole different level of a humanitarian catastrophe across the region.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Oohhh, wild garlic 💚
Dense, dark forests in Europe are a modern phenomenon - Europe’s landscapes for 23 Myr were mostly tree- & flower-rich mosaics shaped by large herbivores, not dense #forests, see our new synthesis www.eurekalert.org/news-release... #forests #woodlands #paleoecology #nature #trees #refiorestation
Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.
The real solution isn’t more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.
"Having greenlit rampant airport expansion, and now potentially a raft of data centres, it's unclear how ministers will ensure the UK sticks to its legally binding climate targets and prevents rocketing emissions and water usage" 🧪

Not that difficult is it
This nonsense of ‘allies of’ spinning BS and getting it regurgitated by senior journalists really needs to end
Josh Simons resigned before a full independent investigation could examine how he paid PR to investigate journalists when running Labour Together
That’s the story
I hate to ask this, but Tehran is still on the cusp of running out of water and Iran is running very low on food. Whatever the regime was doing to help is obviously no longer happening, so are we just going to let 7M people die of thirst and 100M starve?
The US and Israel are bombing Iran. Anyone reporting it as “preventive” is engaging in propaganda, by definition. There is no interpretation of what’s happening as anything else than a crime.
You don’t have to like the Iranian regime to understand why this is bad.
I don't know if I'll ever stop smiling.
We've all done something very special. 💚
Labour were right in saying that this was a two-horse race between them and Reform. They just forgot to mention that the Greens were way out in front, leaving them both for dust 💚

Green Menaces - let’s go. 💚
Huge huge thanks to everyone who’s backed this campaign and shown it so much love.
Now we leave nothing on the pitch. Let’s get this over the line.

One of the worst things about AI, for me, is that it takes away from people the sheer joy of writing. Schools don’t often make this point, but writing should be fun. Putting words together, finding ways to express yourself, the pure pleasure of a well-crafted sentence. 1/5

As a member of the free range left who has primarily pursued a socio-political agenda through extra-parliamentary action, what would give me most comfort now that Britain is capable of swerving a far right govt is ‘don’t split the vote!’ Labour folks publicly getting behind the Green Party candidate
If you write about FIFA’s obscene Gaza plans without mentioning that Israel has systematically destroyed Palestinian football by murdering Palestinian footballers, destroying Palestinian pitches and blocked Palestinian footballers from training or playing, you are part of the problem
