I prefer quoting Patton: "it's not for you to die for your country. It's your job to make the other guy die for his"...but is it still ok to say that in this day and age?

If you need to get up to speed quickly on how conflict in Iran is affecting us, you can't go very wrong with this witty explainer: www.youtube.com/shorts/ixY04.... My recent investment in additional PV capacity and system enhancement looks like a fortuitous move...

That's definitely an ironic yet interesting viewpoint! Can't find anything wrong in it. Now that UKR has the knowledge and skills, hard earned in blood, it absolutely has some very strong cards (as asked a while back ;-) ) that gives it a lot of leverage.

Hegseth's greatest achievement so far is that the men who planned the Bay of Pigs invasion now look like geniuses.

This order was clearly written by somebody who has NO clue of how little things can mess morale up on deployment. Fox ex. in the Signal Corps, the troops expect, nay demand, that we provide them an easy way to stay in contact with home. Try cutting that and see what happens ...

Was in Budapest last week for work and saw the election posters: everywhere pictures of Zelensky and Von Der Leyen holding out their hands for money... Didn't need to read or understand the HUN text to understand what was implied.

Yes, Chiang's government was corrupt, but that was necessary evil to keep all the warlords together. During Sino-Japanese war, it was mainly his forces that fought the IJA. Mao just waited for right moment (agreed, over-simplified but that was end result).

I would think that you would also need info on optics (mainly focal length and sensor size) used to make sure you can do proper interpretation because these things also play a role. But then no real expert.

Just an educated guess from the little info available but at least some burnt out high-voltage cabling...

Bright light and arcing sound suggests to me serious problems with circuit protection systems, if they even have that installed. This is much more than just a transformer going up but all the connected systems down the line going up too...

You don't need sophisticated systems to block GNSS as received signal is very weak and therefore easily jammed (50$ worth of components will be enough for small range device). Spoofing requires much more sophistication but then remember Iran has kept F-14's flying after 79 so they do have some skill

If this picture is referring to the Greenland picture, I'm really curious how the submarine can poke out through the ice ... covering an island! (yes, I know, the Greenland icesheet does stretch into the sea in the fjords but it is incredibly thick)

I always wonder how much weight this adds to a ship and how it affects things like balance ...

...but then how that relates to the current situation is a whole different kettle of fish!

Actually, it is theorised that the Titanic would NOT have sunk, if it had hit the iceberg head-on, i.e. if the look outs had not seen it. @bartgonnissen.bsky.social : care to expand on this?

I was always told that it's not goog to heat olive oil above about 170Β°C and therefore better to use another vegetable oil in a pan??? Bad info?

En BR1 dan, die wel werkt op omverrijkt uranium als onderzoeksreactor en geen netto energie afgeeft, maar toch ook een reactor is? En wat met Myrrha?

Probleem relatie Defensie/Media is altijd eentje van "Can't live with them - can't live without them". Zonder publiek steun geen Defensie, maar teveel opvallen is natuurlijk ook niet wenselijk. Hoewel zaken tonen ook deels afschrikken kan werken. Anyway: blijft dansen op slappe koord.

Similar story here: wife - who was born in America from Belgian parents and thus 'accidental american' - lost friends because "Hillary will take away our guns", and just for that one reason broke contact. This is how insidious misinformation is...
