yeah, sheriffs used to beat up suspects as a way to prevent lynchings (often bc lynch mobs would kill the deputies to break into the jail.). almost like the criminalizing system is...bad.

i did a lot of research into media depictions of sheriffs and there was tbh a lot of media about "racist southern sheriffs" including this guy who did ....car ads.

It’s just so miserable to be party to a lawsuit. It takes a long time; it’s v stressful and traumatic. And they happen after the fact.
It’s a pernicious belief in this country that suing someone is justice.
