A friend recently told me that they didn’t think ICE would deploy tear gas in well to do neighborhoods with a high density of white people. I understood their thinking, but disagreed. Today, they gassed Lakeview. Nothing is off limits to these people.

It’s legal because running from cops is a crime, although I’d say it’s definitely not a crime deserving of a dog attack. But the sheriff’s words make it plain it was an immigration stop, in which case dogs cannot be used to stop ppl who are potentially deportable.

Sending a k9 after someone for, at worst, a traffic violation is abuse of power. And there’s no need to brag about it online. It was plainly an immigration stop; k9s shouldn’t be used.

If a sheriff violates a sanctuary law in the forest, does it make a sound? AGs have historically never wanted to force local LEO to do things, and now the national sheriffs association officially says they cannot.

Sanctuary policies have always been weak, but few people are willing to defend what remains, not even the Democratic party.

I am also not persuaded that law enforcement agencies see it in their interest to more actively block DHS. The lobbying organizations have been lock-step with Trump all the way. Most law enforcement officers voted for Trump.

Thank you! I agree thus far 10th Amendment analysis has prevailed although I am not confident it will hold with SCOTUS. The problem is that most law enforcement want to work with ICE, so even if an urban center does not, people drive across a county line and boom.
