End Pay to Stay End Pay to Stay is a campaign to end the practice of charging incarcerated individuals for their own incarceration.

The outcome? A self-reinforcing cycle of debt, prosecution, and prolonged incarceration.

We partnered with @campaignzero.bsky.social to break down the outdated laws that make this possible.

The U.S. prison system is billing people for their own incarceration.

In 48 states, jails and prisons charge incarcerated people pay-to-stay fees. But with average wages as low as 13 to 52 cents per hour, even basic costs are often out of reach.

Our team worked closely with DOHMH to design and build an interactive report using Esri's StoryMaps platform, which makes the data accessible, engaging, and actionable.

Every five years, DOHMH assesses the top public health risks facing New Yorkers with one clear goal: to help the city allocate resources and protect communities when the next crisis hits.

We found that…

- Roughly 6 million voters may have skipped the ballot box because they felt unsafe.

- Across party lines, voters agree on fixes: shorter lines and visible security cameras top the wish-list for safer elections.

Feeling safe while voting isn’t a given, especially for women and marginalized voters. Our new report with @statesunited.org reveals how safety concerns shaped turnout in the 2024 election.
