I'm also getting pretty serious about moving to Europe if I can get a job that'll let me work from over there. Currently looking at Croatia, which looks beautiful. So maybe it'll be more realistic to run into each other at an event in the EU instead!

No GDC for me this year. It's been almost two years with no job, so I had to stay away this time. I hope things change and it's safe and affordable enough that we can both go again soon!

One bummer about NoClip and the like is that you sort of need to know a game already has an audience before it's out to really make a worthwhile documentary during development. I'd love a series that asks developers what inspired them after their games come out. Better representation that way.

Ah, well I don't have a big cache of inspiration for Seasonspree, but it was a spinoff of a different game that's been in production since 2014 and we took a detour when Wholesome Games became a big deal. I think the original game could be really important to more people, including myself. Someday.

The IGF having a different host every year helps it avoid falling into the mascot trap, which is The Game Awards' biggest problem.

I'm not on board with most organizations having a singular human as their representative. This goes for events, companies, and especially countries.

I'm have some good stuff to share once my game comes out. Hit me up in another decade.

It's so easy adding companies to a personal boycott list. I've done it all my life, and it's never inconvenienced me to stop patronizing an organization that proves it doesn't care about people. There will always be more options out there, more companies that deserve my business.

I don't know if I'd call it defeat, having a search bar on a settings page. People are mostly used to having that option everywhere, and technically you could call it a filter, although the search icon is still more accepted in that situation than the silly oil funnel.

That's true, but there are also people with those mental stresses who don't want to go through all that, so it should be easy enough for them as well. Doesn't need to be the most readily accessible thing, I'd assume, but again, needs to be tested a bit. Luckily testing is fast and fun.

That's a question for every team and product in their own context. It takes prototyping and usability testing to determine the best way to present every option, but I want my Windows numbers turned off, and I know I'd only need to find that option once, so personally, I don't mind digging for it.

Oh yeah, I don't want it all or nothing. I just want everyone to have the option. I would disable it on my devices if I could, because I do things in multiples of 4, not like an urge but a game I play with my brain, and I'd just rather not have the number at all. I'm sure most would want it there.

Another one I've noticed and don't ask for details:

Men will choose the urinal next to an occupied stall rather than a children's urinal (the one set lower on the wall) a comfortable distance from others. So making the children's urinal the one next to the stall will avoid awkward situations.

I should make a list of random user observations product teams never seem to consider.

Here's a fun one: did you know that if a volume slider shows a number next to it, there's a number of people who will stress out over making sure it's always a multiple of something? Let us disable those numbers!

Websites are lying to you. There's no such thing as necessary cookies.

I know this for two reasons. One, the fact that I've been to websites that don't save any cookies at all.

And two, the time I pointed to a Chips Ahoy box at the store and I said "I need those," and my mom said "No you don't."

Because this exact move's been working so well for Duolingo.

Anyway, why isn't something as beautiful and useful as Trello able to run locally without the need for cloud storage and processing? It's a glorified spreadsheet, and now its owners want to make all the same mistakes as everyone else.

I'm open to hearing what people are offering, but I've been a lead since 2013, businesses are making more profit than ever, and everything's getting more expensive. If you're gonna pay me junior rates, expect my attention to be only half there at the very most.

Recruiter calls are so much fun when they sound all excited to get you in front of a bunch of clients, but the moment you tell them what your rate is, that excitement level drops like the pressure in a Boeing after the door cheeses it.

The "Please Wrap It Up" projection from that time at The Game Awards

That would be better! But until I get a proper job and I can pay rent without borrowing money, it'll have to stay a dream. Probably better not to have more distractions at home anyway.

Might be done with Godot for today. I've perplexed two seasoned devs with this issue, and I'm not writing 30 copy-and-paste functions when one should be able to do it.

I'm glad that it isn't my dumb brain that's the problem this time, and honestly, that alone feels like enough success for today.

I can't see myself being able to buy a Switch 2 any time soon, but I've never been that interested in a Pokemon or DK title until this generation, so I hope I can before the Switch 3 comes out at least.

It's pretty alright as a non-coder, but there's also about half a million things I want to change about it. Luckily, being open-source and all, that's actually a possibility. Just need to find an engineer to team up with. Hopefully someday.

From what I've read, you're supposed to throw them high into the air and shout "Sell!" and then when they hit the ground, you shout "Buy!" but I don't know why that is. I'm not a financial advisor.

I just hit a Godot bug that's stumped 2 experts so far, so it isn't just a Unity thing. Good luck not finding more problems!

Every gottdamn day. Another perk to changing your name. There are people I legit never want to find me, even though I'm sure they'd never think about me ever again. 30-year-old embarrassment still won't go away.

That's brutal. Sorry you're going through that. I'd be so screwed if there weren't a free food bank every month near my apartment.
