jk rowling funded a case going before the supreme court that argues it should be legal to discriminate against and persecute trans ppl.

yet still we have to listen to โ€˜centristsโ€™ claiming she isnโ€™t bigoted she just has โ€˜a difference of opinionโ€™.

no trans ppl have a voice in these proceedings.

A fringe group of bigoted weirdos have dragged British media, government, and law into their hateful obsession with trans people. Grim, depressing, and dangerous. Everyone with power in the UK who's played along should be ashamed of themselves.

Gender critical campaigners win at UK supreme court over definition of woman Judges rule that Equality Act definition excludes transgender women holding gender recognition certificates

The UK's Supreme Court ruling is abhorrent and outwardly validates an hateful anti-feminist rhetoric that is extremely harmful towards all minorities (incl. cis-women). I am sick of it.

Trans women are women, trans men are men ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

While many Chinese businesses are reeling from the trade war, Qi, the Maga merchandise maker, brushed off any suggestion his might suffer.
Trump supporters, he said, were willing to pay any price for items bearing the image of their beloved president - and US suppliers were making such a huge profit on them that they could afford to partially absorb the tariff impact.
A Trump baseball cap, for instance, cost only Rmb7.50 ($1) to produce. Tariffs might raise that cost to Rmbo, but the caps were being sold for $50 in the US.
"American sellers could even use the tariffs as an excuse to raise the price to $60 - yet the extra cost will still be borne by the US consumers,
" said Qi.

Quite wonderful find by this FT team. A Chinese small business that makes MAGA merch on.ft.com/4cAH6tE

Trump says โ€˜there are methodsโ€™ for seeking third term in White House In interview Trump said he wasnโ€™t joking when he alluded to a purported loophole for a third term as president

โ€œWeโ€™re seeing a rise in broken legs being diagnosed.โ€

The discourse about this would not be about โ€˜over-diagnosisโ€™, but about investigation into why this was happening, prevention and support. Perhaps we could do the same for other diagnoses.

Yup, tracks with my experience, too.

And even in a department that was overwhelmingly female (excluding emeriti), if male associates didnโ€™t do the extra labor, it did not hurt their chance at TT, but if female associates didnโ€™t donate their time, they wouldnโ€™t get consideration for TT.

Women end up doing the academic housework

A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. The bit that gets me:โ€The male associate professors in particular made it clear that they actively engaged in evasiveness and did not want to participate if it was not positive for their careersโ€

Europeans are right to be angry with Donald Trump, but they should also be furious with themselves | Andrew Rawnsley The betrayal of Ukraine is a final warning to the UK and its continental allies to put a lot more energy and money into rebuilding their defences

I do not, necessarily, agree with the sweeping title of this article. But the fundamental point stands, we have benefitted from US defense for decades and were woefully unprepared for this eventuality.

I lost my job. USDA Forest Service.

My probation was up next week.

I did everything right. I took a GS-7 role with a masterโ€™s degree just to get my foot in the door. I spent years doing seasonal fieldwork for low pay, working in remote places, gaining experience, and building skills, just for a chance at a permanent position. I was about to be a GS-9. I wrote NEPA reports. I conducted field surveys. I worked fire support. I dedicated myself to this work because I believed in it.

Public lands donโ€™t manage themselves. The wildlife, watersheds, and forests we protect donโ€™t just stay protected without people on the ground making it happen. My coworkers and I took on that responsibility, often in places most people never think about but that matter more than they know.

And now? Just like that, Iโ€™m out.

Edit: Iโ€™ve consistently supported progressive policies and have voted Democrat in every national and local election since I was 18. I do appreciate folks asking, I have some coworker having a serious 'leopards ate my face' moment right now.

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.
