As for Cllr Basnett's role leading the Wirral Chamber of Commerce, she has now resigned from the board and is no longer a director. However she said she would stay as chair of the board for the time being

In her speech, Cllr Basnett thanks colleagues for her support as well as Cllrs Stuart and Robinson for their leadership. She said she will set up a budget recovery task force, a review of regeneration schemes as too many projects she said are stuck.

The amendments put forward by the Greens are lost but has Lib Dem support.

Cllr Julie McManus said the Greens were offered a deal but “unfortunately they threw it back in our face.” She said after one incident at Pensions, she phoned each member of the committee to make sure they got home safe

However Cllr Cleary hits back arguing there had been a toxic culture in the council, a toxic culture he said he had continued. He said Labour had decided to align with the Conservatives - what he described as “a toxic party that is declining rapidly disappearing from view”

Similar sentiments are echoed. Cllr Tony Cox said their focus on pensions “have managed to grasp defeat from jaws of victory and it’s not sitting well with them.” He asks why the Greens want to be chair
