Tiny update to this, I've found using the dot product to be a little more consistent. I'm using a tolerance of 0.05 in my use-cases which seems to be working well

Yep! Custom normals are applied too to match original surface (depending where you want that)

I'd set a tolerance a little too low, I've now increased it a little and exposed it as a setting in the case there are other misses π
