I was at country dancing and checking BBC website between each dance. Had to sit outside our gate to listen to the final minute as the snow fell around me. Mind you, still waiting to see the first 3 goals on TV - so much excitement and interviews to get through first!

It’s strange that so many politicians claim to be Christian. Christ would be on a beach today welcoming refugees off small boats with tea and blankets. He’d be hated by Reform, hated by the Tories and hated by the tabloids. Christ was woke, after all

I can think of a dozen sensible ways in which being an MP could be made more like being a middle manager in a reputable company. But it will never happen because β€˜we’ve always done it this way’ which IMHO is one of the big problems in Britain.

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

Sorry to see @waterstones.bsky.social planning to open in Leith. @argonautbooks.bsky.social is an excellent independent bookshop nearby and @typewronger.bsky.social at the other end of the Walk. They should stick to city centre and shopping centres and let independent book shops flourish elsewhere.

Reform would β€˜cut benefits for EU nationals and hike NHS immigration surcharge’ Party claims its policies would eliminate β€˜black hole’ Rachel Reeves faces in the budget – but Labour says the β€˜fantasy numbers don’t add up’

The stupidity of Farage’s latest β€˜plan’ is staggering.
Claiming they’d save British taxpayers money by ripping up international commitments and starting a trade war with Europe is the puerile foot-stamp of a party that uses prejudice as policy. Ruinous nonsense.

When you leave the civil service, you hand back your pass and are usually escorted out of the building even if you've 30+ years of working there behind you. I suspect it's the same in many large companies. Don't see why it should be different for MPs.

Nope. It is well known that the majority of those coming are actual refugees and refugees tend not to be dissuaded from coming by harsh conditions, not least because there are no conditions harsher than what they are fleeing - they have little to lose. Often those arriving in Britain want to be

It's noticeable that in Scotland where leading politicians have talked about the benefits of immigration and the need for humanity, we seem to have less hatred and division. Scotland needs to leave this kingdom of hatred, racism and division.

Labour’s new immigration plan 'not progressive, or practical', says Stella Creasy | The News Agents Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced tough new measures to deter asylum seekers from attempting to enter the UK. Will her methods be enough, or is this simply an attempt to win back support…

"I know there are a lot of MPs who are deeply uncomfortable at the idea of frisking people at the border to see if we can remove their jewellery," says Stella Creasy.

"That's not the way we want to manage somebody who is a victim of torture"

If Edinburgh Uni, with no operational deficit, gets to sack 1800 people, imagine what this will signal to more fiscally challenged Scottish universities?

MSPs need to realise that this is more than a local crisis – we need urgent public scrutiny of Edinburgh’s governance.

Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

This is the point. Policy *should not* be adjusted or fine-tuned in response to minor forecasting judgements. Decisions about whether or not to break a prominent manifesto promise *should not* depend on minor forecasting judgements. This stuff matters. We've got to do better than this.
