His podcasts were one of the main reasons I chose ID as a specialty! A true trailblazer indeed.
The improvement (post-intervention side) could be better if two sets were used at the same time. A remedy would be to use another arm (unit in the hospital?) where two sets were used as usual while the said interventions were carried out
Can’t wait to read it. However, looking at those graphs I can’t help but think this could be a net-zero process. Meaning you improved the bcx yield by certain interventions but cut it down by using single sets. Will need to read the methods carefully before jumping to conclusions here.
“Let’s not call it deregistration, let’s call it a death sentence — that is exactly what it would be for the Palestinian people,” says @sana.msf.ca, MSF Executive Director, as Israel moves to bar nearly 40 aid groups under new registration rules.

Denying medical assistance is unacceptable in any circumstances.
Israel’s threat to withhold registration from MSF & other INGOs is a cynical and calculated attempt to prevent organizations from providing services in #Gaza and the #WestBank, #Palestine.

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing!
Not really, no. I use antistaph PCNs in these cases.
Sorry you had to go through this..
Some people refuse to use it because of the lack of FDA indication. We have evidence that continuous infusion at high doses does indeed achieve good CNS concentration. This is still investigational though. Why not Nafcillin or Oxacillin?
Curious what dose are you using. It can be used assuming the dose is optimized and the organism’s MIC.

Refer to Note 1/A. It might be better to hide Cephalosporins from the report altogether. This way of reporting can create unnecessary confusion. In the U.S. CLSI aligned reports do not report cephalosporins for staph aureus. On another note, this isolate is a PSSA!

The main teaching point is not to solely depend on Filmarray to rule out this pathogen. Great case and beautiful plates

The Epipocalypse: Bug Detectives Kickstarter unfortunately did not fund. 😢
It is hopefully not the end, though! Help me make the relaunch more successful. For those who backed, how can I do better? For those that checked it out but didn't back, why not? Thanks!

The only hemorrhagic fever with ?treatment..Ribavarin. We had a case in Iowa last year. I believe the state epidemiologist presented it at IDWeek
Here in the U.S. people assume just because it’s a “third generation” cephalosporin, they will be getting a “ceftriaxone equivalent“ by prescribing it.
📢Epipocalypse: Bug Detective's Kickstarter is halfway thru!⏱️

Its amazing how little evidence we have for PEP!
Excellent and much needed data to fill the knowledge gap. I have always wondered if the discordant (negative margin, positive culture) really warrants prolonged antibiotic courses. Kudos!
Being an encapsulated organism. It can cause overwhelming septicemia In asplenic patients
Fascinating! Was also wondering about the cost. The technology is getting cheaper but still not cheap enough for large scale implementation.
We might not have had the antibiotic revolution if--
• Fleming had not left his plates out while he went on vacation
• he was less observant
• he didn't work next door to a mycologist
• the weather was warmer
• he didn't have brilliant colleagues to translate his discovery into a useful application
