It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing of the remarkable Dr. Jane Goodall, age 91, who died of natural causes in Los Angeles, CA while on her speaking tour in the United States.

Two great egrets, two herons, a cormorant in the water, a duck flying up, some wigeons in the grass a goose and more all gathered around a pond in this piece of marshland.

Adult white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) flying over the marshy polder landscape. This photo gives a little bit more context about their epic size, as these can have a wingspan of over 2 meters. On the fence below the eagle, a few starlings are huddled together, perhaps relieved they don't seem to be today's prey.

White-tailed eagles; adult and juvenile over the #Arkemheen polder. Their approach was alerted by many calls of birds fleeing. First they did some acrobatics before circling and moving farther south on their hunt.

Three great cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) each sitting on a separate pole above the water in the Nuldernauw lake. To me their expressions resembled those of the comic trio the three stooges. The left one looking somewhat serious, the middle one a bit silly with its open beak and the one on the right a bit aloof.

Today is my 1 year #anniversary of getting a "proper" camera and with it moved quickly towards #birdphotography. Exactly 1 year since I took the photo of these swans, and then today I shot an awesome photo of a juvenile white-tailed eagle in flight.

A group of barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) were gathering around and between the reeds, likely preparing to group up and fly south soon.

The barn swallows were very busy as well yesterday. It definitely looks like they are grouping up to get ready to #migrate south soon.
Especially between the reeds it was a busy spectacle.
