Sickened to hear of this. Women cannot be treated by male health care workers. By withdrawing these education routes, women are condemned to suffer and be denied care!

Can never sleep before early travel - if I do, I wake at least every hour.

A printable pronunciation guide to Gaelic spelling - Goireasan Akerbeltz

Have a look at this website www.akerbeltz.org/index.php?ti... the same creator has a good book which explains the sounds Blas na Gàidhlig - You will find references to it on these pages

Gaelic orthography is extremely logical once you learn it! It is seldom irregular and does a great job of representing the sounds with an 18 letter alphabet via a great use of rules and digraphs and trigraphs.

Page proofs for a chapter contribution this evening. It's about Gaelic theatre and language and eco activism. I wrote it some time ago and now wish it was a book!

A vintage advertisement, featuring a painting of a blonde woman in a white shirt and khaki trousers holding a sheaf of wheat and raising her arm in triumph, in the background is a field of wheat and a hay wain. It reads 'Come and Help with the Victory Harvest'. image via the National Library of Canada Archives, crown copyright

But of course we know that many who were cleared were not respectful of the indigenous cultures or people they encountered in their new territories.

I attended a Gaelic Awareness training session recently (to support the trainer rather than be trained) and I wondered whether more should have been made of the damage inflicted intentionally to Gaelic communities. As you say, many just don't know.

First snow in Aberdeenshire! Glad to see it after an unseasonably 14.5 degrees Celsius on Friday!

Our tescher read The Hobbit to us when I was about 9. Read LoTR trilogy late teens. I am surrounded by Tolkien books now as my husband has just finished translating The Hobbit to Gaelic.

Starter post. I like to engage on topics relating to Gaelic and language policy and sociolinguistics generally: Scottish literature and arts; posts about the Hebrides and north of Scotland (I am an adopted Aberdonian these days). Posts about universities. Book recommendations. And cats.
