Even with a 1.5Β°C warming limit, more than half of children born in 2020 will face unprecedented heatwaves in their lifetimes. If the world warms by 3.5Β°C, that figure could be over 90%.

We are working with front line communities to understand their needs and building policies to empower them.

2/2 We are combining cutting edge climate data with early childhood health and development data to develop an early warning system about where and how children will be impacted by climate. This will then be translate into policy proposals to help governments adapt to our changing climate.

1/2 πŸ“š In 2024, 242 million students (one in seven worldwide) experienced school disruptions due to extreme climate events.

🌍 There is an urgent need to build our knowledge about how climate change is impacting early childhood development.

🌍 Nearly 1 billion children live in countries at high risk from the impacts of climate change but we have very little evidence to link this to their health and development. The Children and Climate Initiative will address this gap.
