APBA 1974 Replay ⚾️

@alexanderraine7.bsky.social

Baseball. History, advanced stats, cards, and APBA. Currently replaying the 1974 season of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox, and using stats from those games to replace the stats for the rest of the league. 😎⚾️

A bit damaging as a Red Sox fan, but I hope you end up with a different result.

Oakland will almost certainly win again.

I believe we can get these third place teams to a better place. Also looking forward to the BoSox September call ups.

All of the stats from my games will be reflected in all stats league-wide.

You can see I've changed my profile name, avatar picture and header picture to reflect the new project.

Hope this isn't disappointing to any followers, but it's what's coming next!

Hoping to start rolling & posting games next week.

The best part?

Thanks to the database wizardry of @robfleishman.bsky.social we have an Excel spreadsheet that keeps stats, day-by-day, replacing all PHI & BOS games with our results - for BOTH teams. Not just team records, but ALL player stats! A monumental task!

Thanks @robfleishman.bsky.social

Here We Go!

My next APBA project will be a replay of 1974 for just the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox. By playing teams from both the NL and AL, we'll get a chance to see all 24 teams. By limiting to 2 teams, we should be able to get through the season in about a year (instead of 7).

Ah, bummer that Home Run couldn’t get it done. He’s one of my faves. Missed two full seasons (contract hold out, looking after his kids after wife passed) and each time, his ability took a stair step down. One of the best, that probably could have been better.

@apbareplay.bsky.social played 1981 recently, so I don't want to redo that.

As for your guess...

The Ultimate Baseball What If: 1961 Continental League for History Maker Baseball — PLAAY Games The tabletop baseball hobby has been around for over 70 years, and it's rare to find something that hasn't already been done. In other December moves, the Philadelphia Phillies;

12.14.73; released RP Darrell 'Bucky' Brandon

12.19.73; signed IF Tony Taylor, who had been released by the Detroit Tigers

Well, Osteen was a starter. in 1973 he was 16-11 with a 3.31 ERA. In 1972, he was 20-11, with a 2.64 ERA. This trade makes more sense (to me) than the Larry Dierker for Milt May trade.
Jim Wynn had just finished a season where he hit .220 with 55 RBI.

Then, after the Winter Meetings, the only other significant MLB action was;

12.11.73; Chicago Cubs traded Ron Santo across town to the Chicago White Sox for Steve Stone, Ken Frailing & Steve Swisher
