Your stuff sounds killer. Enjoy the show and just have fun with it. It’ll be a cool experience and one you’ll always remember.
That’s tough because theres already a ton of stellar albums this year. This one’s really good. bosse-de-nage.bandcamp.com/album/hidden...
Nightly Listen: Nachtmystium | Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. 2. This strays about as far from black metal as a black metal band can go. But, that was the goal. They were trying to push boundaries. A good listen, albeit maybe not for purists. #metalsky candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/addict...
Late Night Listen: Shadows Fall | Threads of Life. Shadows Fall is one of the more melodic NWOAHM bands - and a talented one, at that. This album has a ton of songs that will get stuck in your head (in a good way). Jon Donais’ lead work stands out. #metalsky m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Nightly Listen: Monstrosity | Imperial Doom. The first full length by this FL death metal mainstay. Corpsegrinder would go on to front Cannibal Corpse, as we all know - and guitarist Jason Gobel left to be part of Cynic with Paul Masvidal. #metalsky #deathmetal m.youtube.com/watch?v=T0Mv...
Love that album. Songs like Junkhead show how bad of a place Layne Staley was headed to. Artistically amazing, but undeniably sad at the same time.
Layne is missed for sure. He was an immediately identifiable voice. I am glad that AIC continued on though. They’ve put out so many good tracks, it would have been a shame to not hear them. Crazy to think, but AIC has been active longer post-Layne than they were w/him in the band.
Napalm Death has no bad albums. This one was excellent! \m/
Crazy World by Scorpions.
Amazing that this far into their career they put out an album that good. It’s right up there with their best releases.
Nightly Listen: Invictus | Nocturnal Visions. Damn! This album is good. Where do I start? Filthy riffs, some that ride with drum variation. OSDM hooks. Vocals don’t dominate the mix but have balls. Thoroughly enjoyable death metal. #metalsky #deathmetal mesacounojo.bandcamp.com/album/noctur...
Nightly Listen: Sick Fix | Vexed. A bunch of heavy AF hardcore songs that are all like 2 minutes long? I’m in. No risk of getting bored with this album. You’ll wish you had a stage to dive off of, though. #metalsky #hardcore #nowspinning sickfix.bandcamp.com/album/vexed
Jon Schaffer is an idiot insurrectionist who supports scum like Trump. In terms of separating the art from the artist, his music has always been unlistenable garbage. So, what’s the reason why we should let bygones be bygones?
Beer and Metal: Revolution Brewing | Pragueress. A Czech-style dark lager with 5.8 ABV. These are a delicious, not-too-thick pour with notes of caramel. Revolution (Chicago) pretty much only makes really good beer, and this one is no different. #metalsky #beer
Nightly Listen: Dead On | Self-titled. Pretty sure this is their only full-length. I remember always being enamored with their coffin logo as a ne’er do well teen. While obscure, these guys made some damn fine 80’s thrash. Album still holds up. #metalsky #thrash m.youtube.com/watch?v=-B8_...
Late Nite Listen: Seep | Souvenirs of a Necrosadist. Raw death metal from Maine, of all places. It’s brutal and grimy - just the way death metal should be. More importantly, they have a song called Boiled in Piss. Enough said. #metalsky #nowspinning seepdeathdoom.bandcamp.com/album/souven...
Yep. It’s mean and dirty - the kind of music you want to see live, several beers into a night. Sometimes the simplest stuff is the best.
Nightly Listen: Midnight | No Mercy for Mayhem. Stylistically, this band is very much a 21st century recreation of early 80’s metal. Motörhead meets Venom. It’s fun stuff. Songs get to the point and the pace is consistently quick. #metalsky #nowspinning midnight-ohio.bandcamp.com/album/no-mer...
Beer and Metal: Art History Brewing | Bauhaus. What goes well with a Kreator album? This German Pilsner with Tettnang hops. 5.2 ABV. Art History is a great little brewery in the far west burbs of Chicago. They have “never had a bad beer from there” status. #beer #metalsky
That pic would make a perfect thrash metal album cover.
Late Nite Listen: Kreator | Gods of Violence. A killer album by the masters of Teutonic thrash. Mille is not a youngster. The speed picking he pulls off while handling vocals is nuts. Seen them live many times and he’s not half-assing it. #metalsky #nowspinning kreator.bandcamp.com/album/gods-o...
Agree - I was happy that they went the direction they did. It’s a keeper.
Nightly Listen: Converge | Love is not Enough. This album is 🔥. If you think about Kurt Ballou’s impact on heavy music, it’s kind of mind-boggling. Between Converge and producing for bands like High on Fire, Nails, Gatecreeper & so many more - it’s amazing. convergecult.bandcamp.com/album/love-i...
Late Night Listen: Overkill | Scorched. At the risk of Overkill “overkill”, I still popped on this one. They are immortal. While Megadave & Metallica are making albums I’d rather they not, Overkill just continues to sound amazing. #metalsky #nowspinning overkillmetal.bandcamp.com/album/scorched
Glad Carcass didn’t disavow Swansong and still play songs from it. I never understood the hate for this album. Everyone wanted them to revert back to Necroticism, but this still jams. It’s not an illogical progression from Heartwork. The new ones are firmly in between Heartwork and Necroticism tho.
I was such a Carcass fanatic, I immediately bought it and regularly listened to it. Especially for the time period, it’s a fine album. Entombed was firmly death n’ roll and was still killing it. Death metal was evolving and pushing different boundaries. Glad it wasn’t their actual swansong tho.
Saw these guys back in 1991 with Napalm Death and Nocturnus. I was excited to see them. But, at that time, a lot of people still didn’t understand what they were. I remember some guy yelling “Nayypaaaallllm” incessantly during their set. Still jam Streetcleaner regularly today.
One of my favorites. Never get tired of listening to this one. The insane rambling intros are peak!
Nightly Listen: Edge of Sanity | Infernal. The last album with Dan Swano at the helm. Death n’ roll and prog elements. Not surprising given the time. Heck, Carcass released Swansong the year prior. Swano was producing Opeth albums. #metalsky #nowspinning centurymedia.bandcamp.com/album/infernal
