Years ago, I wrote Tom Lehrer a letter asking if he would be open to an interview, knowing full well that he would likely reject me. I assumed I would never hear from him, but to my surprise, he responded and rejected me. I am honored to have been rejected by such a legend. RIP Tom Lehrer.

@jefflipack.bsky.social Hi Jeff! I am currently making a history video on Disney's roaming characters, and I found this picture of GYRO at Epcot that I think you might have scanned. Would it be ok to use this in my video with on-screen credit to you? Thanks!

Not saying all eras are equal, but progressions are felt every generation. Radio was arguably a bigger leap from printed media than the internet was from 24/7 news networks in terms of scale and speed. Obv the internet is worse than radio, but it’s about the frame of reference of people at the time

I have been working on my next project since the last was released. Should be out late summer.

Patreon videos are ramble videos, they are not written or researched like main channel content.

I have heard the sinkhole is closer to the Odyssey and have never heard confirmation on the Horizons sinkhole

They projected between 150 and 200 million dollars in 2000, came in at 100 million dollars, had a lawsuit that it was 30 million dollars too expensive.

It is funny that people are split on which they think I'm more surprised was expensive. For the record, I easily understand how Expedition Everest cost $100 million, while Mission: Space baffles me (although I am learning there are some additional factors as to why it was so expensive).

The huge mountain coaster with the giant animatronic. I guess I underestimated the cost of centrifuges significantly.

I know I will get a thousand snark comments or guesses, but if anyone in the industry could actually explain how both cost $100 million I am extremely interested.

Can someone explain to me how Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom and Mission: Space at Epcot both cost the same amount of money to build? How is that even possible?

We are looking for media! Do you have video of Talking Mickey at Magic Kingdom or any other Living Character (Lucky the Dinosaur, Muppet Mobile Lab, Wall-E, etc) that we could use in one of our projects?
If so, please send them to contact@defunctland.com. Thank you for your help!

It was so cool to hear from a creator of one of the shows we covered. She was an incredible talent and her puppetry was so creative and full of life. I’m glad we produced that episode when we did so she could see another example of how many people remember and love her work. Rest in Peace, Noreen.

Just heard of the passing of Under the Umbrella Tree creator Noreen Young. We did a DefunctTV on the show and her puppetry a few years ago, and afterwards, she sent me a long and kind message about how well we did and how much she enjoyed reading the comments of people remembering her show.

Since everyone wants to create categories, I will categorize myself as a Disney/theme park history adult, in that if I go to a theme park, I am most interested in the remnants of things that were replaced or removed, which is arguably more weird than simply enjoying the product as designed.
