Discord complies with the U.S. Government, and the U.S. Government is not abiding by legal boundaries.

Any ID given to Discord is, in effect, allowing the U.S. Government to read all our private details.

All this is to say that, while they may not be an injustice in itself, it could significantly facilitate the many other injustices currently happening.

We are, right now, having U.S. Citizens rounded up by the thousands and taken away to prisons. The agents who do this are doing so illegally and in defiance of explicit court orders to let them go. We’re being invaded by our own government.

It’s also worth saying that the U.S. Government is trying to, in various ways, harm LGBT peoples (especially trans people).

If they were to, for example, get access to a Trans-focused discord, they could petition Discord for all the IDs of the people in that discord.

If you’ve heard about the ICE Raids in Minnesota, it recently came out that the Justice department has said that they would stop illegally detaining random citizens IF the governor submitted the state’s private voter data to the president. This would enable them to suppress votes even further.

It’s important to note that, right now in the U.S., the current leaders are going to extreme lengths to secure private information for the purposes of suppressing and menacing the political opposition.

The U.S Government has shown a disturbingly increased interest in illegal investigations that not only violate our right to privacy, but are also used to violate our right to assemble and protest. They can use this to enable police to review our discord conversations without cause.
