Ken Sim won’t be defeated by posts, polls, or prayers. He’ll be defeated in a vote.
That takes conviction in a single progressive candidate who can unify this city. (1/3)

Thorough analysis of the current conditions for kids with disabilities in BC schools
Thank you for reporting on this
The decision on the future of Carleton Elementary is coming back fast, join us in person Dec 17th 5pm at 1580 w Broadway - show up to support neighbourhood schools and transparent decision making. Your voice matters!
Earlier this week the VSB held a meeting to hear from community members about the permanent closure of Carleton Elementary (6-acres of school land at Joyce/Kingsway). The school has been closed for 9 years…
Parents, grandparents, community members, and graduates asked:

The top brass at @VSB39 don't seem to be affected by budget constraints (while lowest-paid workers get wage cuts) and they apparently can't afford to pay living wages to people who drive kids with disabilities. I believe there have been raises since these numbers. #vanpoli #bced
We have been budgeting to be a living wage employer since 2022. As the cost of living increases, so too does our responsibility to pay a living wage.

Guess what… the Chair of the VSB is blocking my virtual participation on the #VSB budget meeting!
Today is the board budget meeting and I am unable to attend in person. I have spent the last five hours debating discussing and arguing with the board chair about whether or not I can attend this meeting virtually, despite past practice where others are allowed without special permission or vote.👇🏾
I was elected by people in this city and I will stop at nothing to make their voices, and my voice heard.
I have reached out to past trustees, former superintendent, and I see no precident for this.👇🏾
I worry that the culture of this school board is to limit voices both of trustees and members of the public. You’ll note this isn’t the first time I’ve said this.

it reminded us why Canadian stories matter.
CBC made it possible.

ABC’s Trustee showed complete disrespect for the privacy and the rights of children and parents.
The absolute least public servants can do is read and respond to their emails. And take parents’ concerns seriously.

Update on the VSB budget process:
At last night’s budget meeting trustees voted on what to include as priorities in next year’s school board budget. Here’s what they voted against 👇🏾
Trustee Chien needs to apologize to parents and DPAC and learn to sincerely listen to parents who are advocating for their children's learning needs to be appropriately supported. And he needs to act on that advocacy. That is the job of a trustee. Do the job or resign #vanpoli #bced
In April, hundreds of parents wrote to VSB trustees about the lack of funding for inclusive education, as part of a DPAC letter campaign. In response, ABC trustees are trying to shut down DPAC’s ability to communicate with them. No wonder parents in Vancouver are so disheartened. #vsb #bced
it’s highly anticipated because you sat on the land for 17 years after getting a $211 million interest free loan
1. After decades of involvement with @VSB39, I’ve tried to tune out. It’s just too disheartening to watch the breakdown in relationships between the board, parents & staff — and the cost to students is enormous. #vanpoli #bced #bcpoli /2
If you take issue with the way this trustee is conducting himself and are offended by the DPAC-limiting motion he has put forward that will be voted on at a board meeting tomorrow evening, please consider making your voice heard by emailing trustees, attending the meeting, and/or sharing this info.
Making a thread here, too.
It's impt for VSB ABC Trustees and ALL residents of Vancouver - who helped to elect these people - to understand that behind the 270+ emails complained about in this week's mtg agenda, are at least 270 KIDS being failed by this district.

Is this what ABC trustees really think of parents and Vancouver DPAC?
I hope the people of Vancouver will take care when voting for trustees in the 2026 election. Start preparing now to get rid of the ABC figure heads that sit on the board (literally just sit), and let’s elect some change makers who actually want to do the job. vancouver.ca/guides/votin...
What is the job of a school board trustee if not reading emails from interest holders and being responsive to them? One ABC trustee in @vsb39.bsky.social decided to treat advocacy emails from over 200 parents/caregivers as “spam”, and to post his grievance on X, compromising parent privacy.
Vancouver DPAC's Inclusive Education Working Group has released a draft report on the experiences of students with disabilities in VSB with stories and data on how support levels have been changing over time. Info here (& presentation January 22).Please share #bced: vancouverdpac.org/inclusive-ed...
