Data center tax breaks cost Phoenix residents millions, city audit says Statewide tax breaks for data center developers are costing Phoenix taxpayers over $12 million in yearly revenue, a new city-sanctioned audit showed.

Data center tax breaks are costing Phoenix $12 million dollars a year.

A new audit says Arizona’s tax breaks for data center developers are costing Phoenix taxpayers the same amount as the city is spending on arts and culture initiatives and environmental programs put together.

Left can't resist being on wrong side of a war

Well, here’s the thing about being antiwar as an ethical belief: it means you end up opposing most wars. Almost all of them, in fact. This is quite common in people who have consistent beliefs but looks insane to people who have none, or mostly just believe superior people should make the decisions.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

I keep seeing posts about ai models like "actually they're good at this thing now!"

but once you understand that ai tools are being built by fascists in service of attacks on humanity, whether or not they can generate useable code or do basic searches kind of stops being the main question

"I love the look of my sketches but I hate doing linearts and..."

THEN STOP DOING LINEARTS πŸ“£πŸ’₯

It's thats simple. No "if's" or "but's", just do what you enjoy, not something that you feel obligation to! Don't feel miserable, stick to things you love doing! ❀️

Seeing people in the news industry say that articles should be AI-generated is absolutely bonkers and the antithesis of why so many of us became journalists in the first placeβ€”because we aspired to the art of reporting AND writing. I will never release AI slop under my byline.

If you maintain your work and business WITHOUT generative "A.i.," you will be ahead of the game when these companies jack up their prices before crashing and burning.

Also, your work won't be trash.

8 panel comic

p1: Imagine the most non-descript middle aged white fella you can. Even that isn't as vanilla as this guy. Your eyes look at him, and then immediately slide off, like he isn't even there.

A title above him --all lower case-- reads "the wednesday man"

P2: Same POV (we see him from the chest up), as he raises his right hand in greeting and says "hi there, folks. I'm the Wednesday Man."

P3: He continues

"As the name suggests, I'm a middling kinda guy..."

P4: He folds his arms as he says "none of the oppresive lows of Mondays... none of the dizzying highs of Fridays"

P5: An extreme --and way too detailed-- closeup of his open mouth.

"Just sorta... there."

P6: Another closeup of WM, looking very intense indeed.

"The fulcrum point between those highs & lows"

P7: We cut to a a side-on view of a desert scene, as a tumbleweed bounces through from left to right

P8: Back to the chest up view of WM, as he holds a comic with a smile on his face. He leaves us with "anyways, have a nice Wednesday, all, and go buy some comics."

When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.

And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.

It was also...fun? I think that's something we don't talk about enough. The process of discovery is very cool.

When someone says β€žScientists do not want you to knowβ€œ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

I'll take this in one more direction. How about when you're reading for a lit review and you come across something that's NOT relevant, but you mentally file it away, and then years later, it becomes the cornerstone of something else? A whole new project? gAI can't do this.

03.03.2026 19:35 β€” πŸ‘ 351    πŸ” 25    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 4

okay, Ill bite.
What do you think the point of reading for and writing a literature review is? The process of reading and writing is crucial for THINKING. Your ideas are shaped by all of this, offloading it to gAI, no matter how "good" you think gAI is at it defeats the purpose entirely.

This reminds me of when I was a PhD candidate during comps (prelims). I was surprised that *I* had to put together all 3 of my reading lists instead of my committee. But then I realized that the act of compiling was an important learning experience.
