I may be running slower than I used to, but I’m not slowing down!

Not often I get 1st in age group (age 50-59) @otfcarmelvalley. 12mph (1% incline, the OTF definition of flat ground) & hoped I wouldn’t fall off. Recall doing 57s as an 18yr old, so not a true PR, but this is a new OTF benchmark so their app says it’s a PR, and I’ll take it. #running

run but wanted to see something beautiful. Made wife drive me here. We got out for a min, looked around & not disappointed: saw real beauty… spellbound honestly. Then I stopped looking into wife’s eyes & noticed the mountains - they were pretty too. Ran home 1.6miles 8:39 pace.
Day started @ 6:30am w/sunrise over a fog-covered canyon. 11hrs later after proctoring #ScienceOlympiad teams firing pingpong balls at targets, came home to the sun just setting. A 5 mile run at a leisurely 9:46 pace while the sky went from orange to pink to purple to black. Just beautiful! #running

Screenshot of Performance Summary from OrangeTheory Fitness app - graph of heart rate vs time, showing me in the orange zone (above 84% max heart rate) for most of the 23 mins of the Everest challenge. Shows I was at 176bpm at the halfway point at 15% incline.
Another PR on the @otfcarmelvalley Everest Signature Workout: 23 mins hill climb on the treadmill starting at 2%, then +1% every minute all the way to 15%, then 14% and decreasing by 2% after that, ending with an all out effort in the 23rd minute at 1%. Made it almost a 1/10 mi further. #running

2nd on leaderboard for my age group @otfcarmelvalley. Small victory. Beat my nemesis in the 5am class by 0.01 miles (so yeah, like 53ft) - HUGE victory! Erik bested me last time by 0.02 miles, and easily beats me on all the rowing benchmarks, so this was very satisfying. #running

Trying to psych myself up to PR the 12-min run for distance benchmark next Thursday at @OTFCarmelValley. By publicly declaring that I need to set it and forget it at 8.8mph, I might actually NOT listen to the voice in my head that one minute into it starts saying, “Slow down - today isn’t your day”

Sales guy sized me up: didn’t want to sell them to me as I’m not a sub-3hr marathoner. He was worried I’d be disappointed & would feel ripped off!

500m benchmark row yesterday at #otfcarmelvalley started well (1:15 split and 543 watts) but didn’t finish well as I found the pain cave with 100m to go and missed my PR by a second … next time maybe
