This is "Paul Ryan's favourite band is Rage Against The Machine" levels of media illiteracy.
Starting production without a script, throwing out existing footage and rewriting on the fly has become the norm on big budget Hollywood movies. Stories definitely suffer as a result of these practices in both media. James Gunn recently called it out so maybe we'll see a shift.
Great thread, but definitely not a unique issue to games writing. screenplays are routinely amended while the film/show is shooting (the strict way that this is controlled is what you're really paying for when you buy Final Draft) for all sorts of arbitrary reasons often on tight turnarounds too
Love to see Scene 1 - OMITTED. Usually means some wanky intro got the chop on the page instead of in the edit. Time/money was freed up on the schedule to make the rest better AND we get to the story quicker. Makes my inner script editor happy.

I 100% GET YOU. Similarly , it annoys me that all the faux NOSTROMO crew shirts have the "building better worlds" slogan on thrm, when it is implied in Aliens that it's an advertising slogan the company adopted later. The fact that this was retconned in Prometheus only enrages me further.
