Was going to launch this at Adelaide - but will now be Canberra in March. I suck at promotion, but it’s open for pre order at wherever you get your books (and you can ask your library for it too) 🩷

Bendigo Writers Festival, Meanjin, now Adelaide Writers … powerful vested interests would rather destroy the cultural institutions they are supposedly responsible for than allow certain voices to be heard

Pro-Israel groups have attacked me for years. The Bendigo Writers Festival is a turning point. Randa Abdel-Fattah writes of her experience as a target of the pro-Israel lobby

Randa Abdel-Fattah details life as a target of the pro-Israel lobby and those who capitulate to it, in an op-ed commissioned by The Age and then rejected

Pro-Israel group lobbied La Trobe and Bendigo Writers Festival over Palestinian academic's institution A leaked letter reveals pressure from a pro-Israel group in the lead up to the Festival

Well there you go. Bendigo Writers Festival has been absolutely played, forced to do the dirty work of lobbyists by their sponsor. When these threats come knocking, academic institutions should be doing everything to protect and defend this country’s cultural events, not become Israel’s enforcer.

I am often accused of being too emotional when reporting on politics - but I would rather have a human emotional response than pretend this is just 'reshaping US policy in the Middle East'. It's ethnic cleansing and the end of the rule of law. And the Australian government has said nothing

She wrote a book!! On bravery!! Talk about “practicing what you preach “!! Wouldn’t it be a nice gesture of thanks to buy her book? Get her on the bestseller list? And lessons on bravery could serve us well right now 😊

because it was utter posh nonsense. I don't know why it appealed so much but I thought it was hysterical. maybe I was simply in the mood for something so outrageously old-fashioned. my version of mindless entertaining trash I suppose, I can't really put my finger on it

I’ve started reading Smiley from the start and it’s been a delight. I’m up to The Looking Glass War. Can recommend such a course of action ✔️
