This is our country. Donald Trump doesn't own America. He doesn't own the White House. Everything he does relies on our money.

We depend on Congress to represent our interests. They are failing us by allowing him to exploit our money for his personal interests. He & his party of sycophants must go.

you can tell Wired has been doing good journalism lately because there's been increased whining by the extraction class about how Wired mysteriously changed in the decade since tech titans fully revealed themselves as sociopaths

does anyone know of a good online support group for vets with PTSD? (I emailed the wounded warrior project)...trying to find one for an Iraq vet with a PTSD diagnosis, very little time, but is feeling a lack of managing symptoms in the current geopolitical situation

To be fair, most poor people are also bad with money.

I grew up poor. Never learned how to save. Money, when you had it, was to be spent. Never knew when it was going to come again. Future was not a thing you could plan. Treat yourself while you could.

My poverty mentality still lingers.

Grammarly turned me into an AI editor against my will and I hate it The company tells Platformer it will let experts opt out of the controversial feature — but how different is it than what every other AI company is doing?

Techbros are really the most parasitic, society-degrading group around

NEWS: The Trump administration confirmed it bombed a girl’s school in Iran.

It's one of the most devastating military errors in decades.

Trump lied about it. Pete Hegseth gutted the office preventing civilian casualties.

175 are dead. Most were kids. Hegseth should be fired.

Trump’s power and by extension his entire movement are built around the idea that by asserting something you manifest it in reality. Even if it’s not true many people will behave as if is so you can get away with it.

It is alarmingly effective in law, domestic politics. It cannot unblock a strait.

In the moment, I powered through, but as the evening went on and I got home, I realized more and more how upset I was. So I guess my point is, when someone gets punched, they don't always feel the pain right away. The adrenaline keeps them moving forward.

Watch out for your friends.

HE was unprofessional. I kept my cool (as much as possible). Maybe I shouldn't have, but life as a woman in genre has very much taught me that he gets to be awkward, and if I match his energy, I'm a bitch. I'd just had a whole room informed that my stepfather was a pedo, I didn't need more heat.

I swear he pulled that "bio" off ChatGPT or something similar. It had accurate biographical details, including ones that should NEVER have been included in a bookstore introduction. NEVER.

I was still trying to figure out whether that whole thing had been as inappropriate as it felt when we reached the signing, and EVERY SINGLE PERSON who had attended came up to apologize for him.

What I didn't ask--and should have, I'm realizing now--was whether he had gone to school with me. Because he had a generic name, and we're both a lot older than we would have been when I was in second grade. And like, my dude, why do you care so much what I think of my bullies? Unless you WERE one.

I reacted immediately, loudly, and with vague horror. He was less apologetic than he had been when he got the number of books I've written wrong.

Three questions later, he decided to start asking me detailed questions about being bullied in school.

I have been doing bookstore events since 2009. With the exception of the lockdown years, I have probably done between ten and several dozen per year since then.

This is the first time a store mod has announced to the room that I was molested as a child.

Now to last night's event. When I got there, the man who was going to moderate me told me proudly that he had a written introduction (he did not volunteer to let me see it). He asked if anything was off-limits. I, the innocent, said no. I thought topics would remain book-related.

Nope.

Some stores have event coordinators who do this all the time and have plenty of practice. Some have volunteers. Some have unhappy employees who got voluntold to do the job.

I try to be real forgiving, no matter what. They may or may not be there voluntarily.

I have done a lot of bookstore events. They're generally a pretty good time, and a nice way to meet new-to-me readers (as in, readers I've never met, not as in "readers I've just recruited". I dunno how many of those come from bookstore events). But the staff can be...a mixed bag.

CW: CSA mentioned, bad moderator behavior.

Okay, so.

I had a book come out yesterday (BUTTERFLY EFFECTS, available now from a bookstore near you), and as is often the case, I went out last night to promote it. Bookstore event, whee.

Thread, and also, what the actual fuck

Who this "moderator" was should not be allowed to go near a book event again
