I was trained to be a RR teacher. I thought I was being given THE BEST, researched model for teaching emergent readers. But after I looked at the evidence, I changed my practice.
RR teachers are dedicated, but it's time they looked at the research.

The Ministry of Ed. In BC is still very reluctant to change their curriculum to structured literacy, and the more voices we have saying it’s more effective for our struggling readers, the better!

This is such good news! Having used UFLI as a tutor for over a year, I am not surprised by its effectiveness, especially as Tier 1 instruction.

Partner reading is an excellent method to practice fluency.

Universities will have to improve their teaching degrees or face consequences. The reactions have been mixed Universities will be given two years to overhaul their education degrees or risk losing their accreditation as part of a national bid to fix Australia's teacher shortage.

It's really unfortunate that BCEd's usual suspects are so resistant to change. We can only hope that continued grass roots pressure and research evidence around learning will force them to change their ways.

Georgia State University accused of teaching ‘debunked’ reading methods Multiple states have banned a method used to teach children to read for decades, but it’s still allowed in Georgia.

First the news of a law suit against Fountas & Pinnell and now a university is being (rightfully) questioned about its literacy programming.

I wonder what BC's universities are promoting or endorsing in their preservice ed. programs...🤔
