i don’t know the line, but I can ‘hear’ it in romances from the 50s-80s. Less so, now. I can also imagine it as Jane Austen line.

When I rescued her, I was there looking at a different cattle dog. But while a dozen other dogs were tearing around, she came up to me and leaned against me like she’d been missing me for months.

With some people she LIKED, I’d watch her ‘nip’ their ankles so lightly they didn’t feel it. But that was a best case scenario. I loved her & she worshipped me, but it was very tough.

I disagree in the sense that lack of urgency will simply the smaller pie captured by a smaller, more politically ambitious industry.

Anyway… it’s a well sourced book and I believe it’s still worth reading 25 years after it came out. Perhaps there have been subsequent ‘takedowns’ of the author’s points, but I’m unaware of them.
