I saw a suggestion online to also store it in your freezer for a period to be sure. But I bet if you brought it in and kept it in a tightly sealed plastic bag for a while that would do the same to ensure there were no surviving wasps .

That might be a bald-faced hornet nest... Be careful until after a sustained period of hard freeze. It is possible to save the nest if you'd like it as a piece of nature decor.

Wow, it's so pretty!

Yesterday I visited Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck, NC. It was my second time there, and just as special as the first visit! This is a flamingo who I think was done with primates for the day.

A Carolina Mantis, native to the southeastern US, clings to a window screen. It is a long, brown insect with a triangular head, large folding front legs for gripping prey, and two more pairs of legs, as well as a pair of wings.

I'm so excited that there's a native Carolina Mantis on my window! They are smaller than the invasive Asian mantids and their wings are shorter than their abdomens (on the invasive mantids, the wings extend beyond the end of the abdomen). #Nativeplants bring great #inverts!

Lap quilt top is done! This is the second of three for my kids for Christmas. I found a batik in my stash that I think works well as sashing. This isn't in the range of my usual color palettes, but I like the way it turned out.

I'm so sorry. <3 I have four senior cats. The oldest had another major seizure today. He seems to have recovered again, but I know our time together will not be much longer. We love these little ones.
