A bit more detail: this Apple III is fully restored and works beautifully. I just recently picked up this wonderful Apple Color 100 RGB display, complete with its awesome/bizarre motorized tilt function. The tilt motor works but sadly the display itself is dead - suggestions are welcome!

Hey @ismh86.net: do you happen to have any good / high-res pics of the "Blueberry" iMac G3 that came out in '99? It doesn't seem to be featured in your gorgeous array of original iMac colors, and I'm having a terrible time finding good pics of it. Mine is seen to the ⬅ of my Flower Power iMac here

While I'm on the topic of "stuff that's bringing me joy:" I just finished listening to "Starter Villain" by @scalzi.com (and as is tradition, beautifully narrated by @wilwheaton.net). This was a delight from start to finish - a realistic supervillain story filled with touches of whimsey. Delightful!

Seriously though, using Keynote vs Those Other Apps™ feels like going from Pixelmator to chisels and stone tablets or something. Compared to the widely-used alternatives, Keynote is a legit source of joy ❤️

Compared to the alternatives (you know what they are), Keynote feels like a miracle of thoughtful design. I sincerely love this app, and by extension, I love anyone and everyone who made it.

Oh man, that hits hard. I was forced to sell my complete-in-box 20th Anniversary Mac around that same time, and it still stings pretty badly. Hope we both find our long-lost machines again someday!

We’re going to be sharing this BeBox with the public as one of the hands-on exhibits at our upcoming Retro Roadshow events (March 15th @ Cupertino Library / March 30th @ Milpitas Library) - a rare opportunity to play with this innovative computer. We hope to see you there!

I was a kid when I read an article about the BeBox in early 1997 in the San Francisco Virgin Megastore - a very specific memory! I became obsessed with getting one. It took over a decade, but I finally managed to buy this BeBox in 2007 - it’s been a treasured part of our collection ever since.

Be Inc. was later sold to Palm, Palm was later gobbled up by HP, and today Be is long gone. It’s funny to imagine a parallel universe where Apple bought Be instead - perhaps we’d all be working on BeBooks and texting each other on bPhones!

There was a moment when it looked like Apple might purchase Be and use BeOS as the foundation for a new version of the Mac, but in the end they bought Steve Job’s NeXTSTEP, which became the basis of Mac OS X (and later, macOS / iOS, etc.).

Only around 1,800 BeBoxes were built (1,000 of the 66MHz machines + 800 upgraded 133MHz machines), and today they are an extremely rare and highly-collectable novelty. I’ve seen estimates that there may be fewer than 100 functional BeBoxes left in the world - we’re very happy to have one of them.
