Oh wow! I was lucky enough that my dad brought me back an Arsenal top from London in 95 (the blue lightning shirt! Insta-buy on the modern update), so I got to live the double in college. Grew up in IRC rooms and streaming London radio. Lucky to have a couple Brit dormmates to learn the ropes. :)

I read parts of Dawn w/ my comparative gov't kids (Tlaxcala, Pacific NW comps, seasonal hierarchies) on the first day to set a tone re: imagination in government. Also introduce In This World by Ben Robbins, which is a collaborative game for wondering about doing things differently. Great combo.

I taught AP US History last year, 15 years after last teaching anything US, and the through line of "liberty" as 1st priority as outlined by @hcrichardson.bsky.social in this book could not possibly be clearer. The abuse of that idea at the expense of equality screams when you know to look for it.

@hcrichardson.bsky.social tried to tell us this years ago in her book How the South Won the Civil War.

I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.
