It’s called Blue Apple Books and it’s in my town so if you ever are trying to do an event in Alabama I will be front row.

Found @claymcleod.bsky.social books at my local indie bookstore, *and* had a conversation with the owner, a former teacher of mine, in which she expressed that she actively turns down work done by AI. viva humanity!

It is once again time to rise from the depths and canvas what are your favorite movies from this year, as I try to shove as many into the remaining bit of December as I can.

I did find a bear shaped bottle on Etsy in response to this lol but I’ve also seen people using the bear shaped honey bottles as bottles instead. Wins in many ways.

I’m hours away from being the most annoying person anyone I know has ever seen (Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein will be accessible to me upon my waking hours)

POSSIBLY IN MICHIGAN (1983) YouTube video by ceceliacondit

Happy Halloween to the video that brought about my first piece for Dread. I haven’t seen the audio used as much this year. We must not let the weird kids lose the ancient texts.

This roller coaster is what we all experienced. I think it got maybe a year of being the people’s darling before she was revealed to be this way. Alas.

'INVADER' Dives into the Chaos of Domestic Invasion - Daily Grindhouse “A home invasion occurs every 30 seconds in America.” So opens Mickey Keating’s latest, which just landed on Shudder this month. Keating has proven to be one of my favorite creators working in horror ...

Mickey Keating's latest hit @shudder.com this month, and if there's one thing about me, I am present for every Mickey Keating effort. Home invasion by way of Keating's unique style is decidedly different from his prior work, but I'm still here for it! My latest for @dailygrindhouse.bsky.social:

If you’ve kept me in your PR lists, know I am catching up and I am indebted to you and hope your pillow is optimal temperature whenever you need it.

I’ve just finished cleaning up my email and apparently must start a fight against the GMail automatic folder throwing.

[On Literary Censorship]: Malinda Lo’s Last Night at the Telegraph Club On finding connection amidst societal anxiety

Determined to finish my established chosen set, I closed out this year’s series with @malindalo.bsky.social’s Last Night at the Telegraph Club, to talk about the importance (esp now) of access to diverse stories and how unsettling it is to be writing about a book published in the last 3 years

[On Literary Censorship]: Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings On identity and connection in the face of societal turmoil

Last week was Banned Books Week, which is what I am telling myself is good enough reason to be late to posting more from the series this year. Remember to keep your voices going.

Variety Magazine’s profile on Dread Central EIC, MaryBeth McAndrews, for their impact article on horror. The profile reads: “A filmmaker, author and critic, McAndrews’ Dread Central is a go-to website for horror fans. There, she has sought to expand the content and writing pool to “provide a platform for underrepresented voices not just in film, but in horror journalism” with a spotlight on minority voices in the genre. She also co-hosts the “Scarred for Life” podcast and has run fundraisers with the site’s “Horror is Political” merchandise to raise money for such organizations as the Trevor Project.”

I am constantly proud to know @mbmcandrews.bsky.social, one of my personal inspirations for keeping it going despite the horrors, and I’m honored to have a small home at the site for a column I care deeply for (soon to return). This is incredibly cool for MB and @dreadcentral.bsky.social both!

I continue to fight tooth and nail against the day job drain and trauma-related depression that seeks to sap me of my writing motivation. Over the last few weekends it’s been through a balance of reading and art.
