I truly need a good podcast to binge. What’s good these days?

I wish I could make how devastated I’ve been easier for the people in my life.

I think I pointed myself in another direction than that and could go back to less scale but scale was always my why.

Part of me wants to start a Substack and talk about what it’s like after I’m this position. About employment in the arts today. About our leaders and our institutions and about how others have thrived or failed within them.

Allls I can say is never take anything for granted. Years of work can evaporate in a zoom call.

Mind you, this isn’t a “I feel sorry for myself” — it’s just confounding and has dragged next steps out wildly. Because I never wanted to reinvent myself. Books and publishing were everything to me. And a hard journey there.

I didn’t have kids or get married. I worked. And worked and worked and worked. And I’m not sure who I am in middle age without having made a family and now without a career.

Personally, I’m doing fine. But a year ago, I wouldn’t have guessed that a whole industry didn’t want me in a single capacity. Messes with one’s sense of self.

Okay people what should I be when I grow up??? Literary nonprofits in cities I can live in are few and far between and I haven’t had a *single* conversation about working in publishing with a single book publisher since before I left. What says the hive mind? It’s time to get back to work.
