At this moment you won't even need a loud noise anymore, the audience is disarmed and will fall into the trap. It's not an easy thing to do, I think that's why it is so shitty every time

The thing is that the jump scare best part is not the final view but the expectation. The dread you feel when you are expecting something bad to happen, but it delays and delays until you convince yourself that it's safe to relax, then it hits you.

Now, movies jump scares are awful. I understand that once it was a thing, but nowadays it is done terribly. They abuse the audio visual idea to shock your ears and nerves with a loud noise and a gross image

The book jump scare is something you don't expect in a million years and that happens at the worse moment ever, it leaves your mouth open and you must even stop reading in order to absorb that information for a while

The books are almost the same, the difference is that the media demands some adjustments.
Books force you to imagine things because you can't see them, and can jump scares you too, but it's different, and I dare to say better

Good horror often comes with things that are unexplainable. The protagonist can even beat the horror in the end and survive, but we don't get to fully know it. Is there more? Is it truly ended? We never know.
The movie ends but the dread stays with you forever and you can go to the bathroom at night

As Lovecraft once stated "oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown" and that is the fear the eerie short film expresses, but when someone takes the idea and creates a 2h origin movie about the eerie thing and shows it too much we immediately go "meh"

Did you ever wonder why that awesome short horror film sucked when it was turned into a full length movie?
My take on this is because we understand it too much

This person is one hundred percent correct and it’s scary af. We will never “media literacy” our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.
