If you don't own the copy of the book printed on paper, do you really own it? Can books and stories some day be disappeared off devices if they are banned? Or am I paranoid?

My brag for the day. I have A flock of California grouse eating Hawthorn berries in my pasture. I recorded the calls and the Merlin bird ID app told me they were rare! At least in my area. Very pretty birds.

I oppose all political violence. That includes the death penalty.

I hope we are amassing a stockpile of vaccines for when an outbreak of measles, Mumps or rubella reminds us that these can be dangerous. I think people may suddenly want to vaccinate. Want scary stuff? Look up what happens to an adult male when he gets Mumps and it descends into his testicles.

The prices for Halloween candy really make me sad.

We sometimes drive to the Reservation where gas is cheaper. We get the Safeway gas discount too. I see many people grocery shopping with calculator apps open.

Washington State. Regular gas, cash price. $4,50 a gallon. Stew meat at Safeway is $10.99 a pound before any discounts. Used to be part of my cheap meals menu.

The cat decision is a serious one so I need to ponder it. Meeting with a contractor today to do upgrades to the Writers' Refuge. Expanding into adjacent room, upgrade bathrooms, kitchenette. Maybe add cat door to back yard. It's chain link fence 7 feet tall. Ruth says cat can climb it. Really?

But the cat might get too lonely at night? Some cats enjoy solitude. But maybe any home with space and daytime people is better than a shelter?

Serious question. Do bookstore cats go home at night or stay in bookstore alone? I have a non- home location. Maybe a senior cat from a shelter would enjoy it?
