What if the city girl in the Hallmark movie could marry a woodworker and have kids (if she felt like it) but had paid leave & affordable childcare and kept her job with some travel and remote work and her partner’s support. What if we saw more models of how much easier and happier this could all be.

We see a lot of tropes and extremes when it comes to women and not great ones—wine moms, boss bitches. I get why the tradwife aesthetic can look appealing in contrast, simple, shiny.

What if we had policies that worked and we could have both a meaningful career and meaningful time with our family.

Northwestern, my alma mater, made a deal with the Trump Administration. In the email I received they said this “ends a deeply painful and disruptive period in our university’s history,” “based on institutional values.” Bowing to authoritarianism to protect billion dollar endowments does neither.
