We're still using shared libraries in 2025 where programs just have to pray the installed version might be compatible. It's literally more reasonable to target win32 to have a better shot at your cross-platform program running on Linux.

It's so awesome that Epic is attempting to take over the game development sphere with Unreal and cannot be bothered to properly support git or at least update their version of the Perforce API for Linux in the engine from 2018.1. Making games for Linux on Linux is an uphill battle
