The Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact. She's a terrifying bald cybernetic monster who is absolutely rocking that red lipstick, girrrrl The T-Rex from Jurassic Park, breaking through the barriers that kept her from achieving her full potential (eating whoever she wants) The Xenomorph Queen from Aliens. She's a horrifying mass of insectoid limbs and black carapace. She's making her own way through the galaxy in the face of adversity, all while raising a family. You really can have it all. Jobu Tupaki from Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. She's wearing an outfit that's a riot of different colors and styles. That's because she's out there girl-bossing and living her best lives, all at the same time. That's multitasking!

fun fact, the TTC runs on a $3.35 and includes subway, street cars and buses. Just a fun thought that our $3.25 gets us barely a bus & ferry that may or may not be running

I would happily pay one more percentage point on the HST, for bridge tolls, and for parking to help fund grants, museums, bus passes for students, and more #taxmedaddy.

So sad to share that legendary colorist Tatjana Wood has passed away at the age of 99. Her pioneering painterly touch graced scores of DC & Vertigo series. She was truly one of a kind and a special friend. May her memory be a blessing.

While all these cuts are horrifying, I want to be clear that, at the moment, these are PROPOSED cuts. There’s still time to your voice heard. Call or email your MLA. Call or email Tim Houston’s office. Call or email the Ministers related to the cuts you’re most angry about. See below for contacts.

Protect Nova Scotia Democracy on facebook:
"Austerity has always been a conflict, with false economic theories winning out over people's livelihoods. It shouldn't be complicated to understand that personal insecurity begets economic instability. Politician's refusal to change track showcases either ignorance or a willingness to make people's life more difficult. Neither will help the economy or reverse the declining trend in living standards."
- The New Economics
Let's reflect on what the Premier of Nova Scotia has done, that has suddenly led to the need to ideologically cut government services, and a false narrative about needing a return to a natural resource economy to save ourselves.
-He cut HST by 1%, eliminating $280 million from the public coffers. No one asked for this.
-He cut the Halifax Bridge tolls, reducing $40 million from the public coffers. No one asked for this.
-He manufactures a crisis by squandering a $6 billion surplus. He is an accountant; we expected that he would understand the consequences of this.
-He controls the narrative and requires all of his MLA's to not talk to Nova Scotians. Authoritarianism at work.
--He fires the minister of Energy and becomes the energy czar of the province. My way or the highway.
-He has not solved the health care crisis. Promises broken. (Continued from previous post)

-He now expects forests, mines, and fracked gas to be our saviour. The reality is that most of the revenues from these will require huge investments of new government subsidies and favours to developers. Natural resource extraction is an old paradigm, that is no longer relevant in Nova Scotia.
But, he fires the Wildlife Division so that ecological information and science is no longer blocking resource extraction developers. Houston, we have a problem.
-He sees Mi'Kmaq treaties as obstacles to his resource agenda, so he invents new legislation to block protests, with punitive fines.
And, now he and his Ministers are appealing to Nova Scotians to accept the need for austerity. Gone is the Wildlife division, museums are shuttered, and visitor centres are closed.
When ideology drives government decision-making in this kind of way, resistance becomes a path forward. The end goal is to honour Nova Scotians values, create and expand non-extractive economy, and develop resilience to climate change and food security, while creating new models for health and housing. We cannot afford to have ideologues tear down our house and at the same time, tell us that they know what is best for us. Be gone!
Austerity is a political choice, not an economic necessity. Don't fall for this false narrative.

“Austerity is a political choice, not an economic necessity”

Coun. Kathyrn Morse shared her thoughts on Andy Fillmore’s motion to cut wages.

“As the magnitude of the motion sunk in, it struck me as similar to DOGE, Elon Musk’s ‘efficiency’ campaign that caused chaos, cancelled vital government programs and, in the end, failed to cut government spending.”
