These people are poison. They will unleash racist thugs on the streets of this country and call it security. They will subjugate us to the US and call it patriotism. They must be stopped. There is no more important task in politics.

My day job is a university lecturer - I have often wondered what will happen to universities if Reform get in, and now we know.

‘If I think about what this means, I want to cry’: what happens when a city loses its university? When Essex University’s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a ‘left behind’ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

The current system of university funding isn't working for anyone (students, graduates, universities, or taxpayers) and until it's changed, there will be more closures like this:

Staffs County Council leader has made some appalling social media comments, which are detailed in the article below.

This has been around for a few weeks but I only saw it today. Very measured thoughts on how we should think about AI and the future of work for young people.

A fine thread opposing ID cards. I too am against this sort of thing.

“Liberal Democrats cannot support a mandatory digital ID where people are forced to turn over their private data just to go about their daily lives... People shouldn’t be turned into criminals just because they can’t have a digital ID, or choose not to.” — Victoria Collins, Liberal Democrat Science, Innovation and Technology Spokesperson.

Liberal Democrats cannot support mandatory digital IDs. People shouldn't be criminalised just because they don't want to hand over their private data.

Lib Dems should ditch Ed Davey’s stunts and talk policy, survey finds Thinktank poll reveals voters unclear what party stands for despite photo opportunities winning more media coverage

The annoying thing here is that the Lib Dems talk policy quite a lot and get ignored by the media, which is what Davey's stunts were a response to in the first place. I don't think he's addicted to stunts. I'm sure he'd love it if his policies got covered

It's Reform's stated ambition to copy the Lib Dems'
election strategies, both locally and nationally. But if you look at the candidate training listed for the upcoming Lib Dem conference, you realise *just how seriously and in detail* the Lib Dems take all of this. Doesn't happen overnight.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.
