The Myth of the Secret Genius From Elon Musk to Elizabeth Holmes and Donald Trump, many very rich people are effective at convincing us of a myth: they're secretly a genius, and you're just too dumb to understand. Are they right?

Excellent piece of work, and still πŸ’― percent relevant:

Of course.

Most monied CEOs, dark money donors, and politicians rarely get near farms, and - key point - really could not care less about the health and welfare of the citizenry, or farmers, much less the animals.

Their priority is to to pursue gain - net worth vs net benefit to society.

This is an excerpt from Hunter S. Thompson’s book β€œFear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail β€˜72”. It is a fantastic summation of the Nixon/McGovern race, but the names Trump/Harris could easily be substituted:

Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1.Β  Purpose.

Trumps AI order requires LLMs to be "truthful".

Who defines what is truth? I certainly wouldn't trust a habitual liar and long term con artist's version of it.

This order has nothing to do with facts or accuracy it is an attempt to control the narrative.

If ChatGPT is not consistently dependable, how are we suppose to use it for actual work?
Discussion
It's behavior and results can randomly change due to some OpenAl tweaking that's opaque.
On some days it can't even keep track of a fresh chat, it can't do calculations, it can't sort through a chat to extract relevant information, and when it's suppose to refer to source material in a PDF, it doesn't.
All because OpenAl trained it for fluency and basically to simulate whatever it can for user satisfaction.
I can use it for general chats, philosophical stuff, therapy, but nothing serious. I'm pro Al, but I approach it with skepticism knowing it's undependable (as I do with anything I read).
And prompts can be interpreted/executed differently across users' own interaction with their Als so it's not truly scalable.
How does the business world / leaders expect staff to adopt Al if it's not consistently dependable? It doesn't even calculate like a calculator. If the internet start claiming 2+2=5, that's what it'll answer with.
I'd use it for hobbies and pet projects but I can't imagine using it for anything "mission critical".

For all those rightwingers crying about how β€œDeMoCrAtS GerRyMaNdEr ToO,” just ask them if they support a nationwide ban on gerrymandering. We do. They don’t. They’re not mad at the concept of gerrymandering, they’re mad that they don’t get to be the only party wielding it anymore.

The Mothership Vortex: An Investigation Into the Firm at the Heart of the Democratic Spam Machine How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.

The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:

$678M raised through those spam tactics

$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.

$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)

The party isn’t just treating donors like marksβ€”it’s being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.
