Second scary measles thought of the day-ish. There is also a case in Maimi... a city that sees a lot of tourism and has a large cruise ship port.

There is a confirmed case of measles in Montgomery County, PA. While the other outbreaks have been in more rural areas, this county is right next to Philadelphia and holds many of the cities suburbs.

This one case has the potential to infect a lot of people.

I'm in NJ. Have been my whole life except for college and an internship. It's still true. Every state apparently needs to have a BS argument that can be easily solved with an infinitesimal bit of logic.

While their neighbors are asking, "Why me?" they're asking, "Why not me?"

That's a special kind of survivors guilt right there.

Another thought on the CA fires. We're seeing videos of people who's houses survived and are finding their pets and other statistical improbabilities/miracles. But we need to remember that these stories in and of themselves are a special kind of trauma.

Trauma like that doesn't give a shit about your socioeconomic class and we need to show compassion for everyone going through it even though they will be financially fine and, probably, the first to rebuild.

They still left their house knowing they might never come back or fled an already burning building. They still watched the news not knowing what happened to their home, or watched it burn on live TV.

There are a lot of other people talking shit about the rich about feeling upset because they lost their homes. While I'm 100% "The rich are sociopathic hoarders of wealth that we need to tax the hell out of to start to fix our economy," we all need to remember they're people first.
