πŸ† Our #ResearchOfTheMonth goes to @timewise.bsky.social for their research paper 'Healthy By Design?' which shows that just 60,000 of the 2.4 million people economically inactive due to long-term ill health find a job each year. (1/5)

🧡Today is #PartTimeWorks day!

I have been quite vocal in talking about my role as a Research Professor in a University being #PartTime because I believe #PartTimeWorks – in all kinds of jobs, at all levels.

I have been working part-time since my son was born in 2012.

Why healthy job design is critical to tackling economic inactivity - Timewise This paper shows how insecure, inflexible and excessive hours in frontline sectors exacerbate the UK’s economic inactivity problem – and what to do about it.

πŸ“‰ Only 2.5% of health-inactive people return to work yearly. 57% who do get unsustainable frontline jobs. We're calling for healthy work standards & Β£500m fund to fix the revolving door between inactivity & poor employment: timewise.co.uk/article/why-...

Developing a whole-school approach to flexible working - Timewise Our 16-month Teaching Pioneers Programme saw us partner with eight secondary schools, within three multi-academy trusts, to explore how best to champion and deliver flexible working within the profession.

Great to see @danielkebedeneu.bsky.social calling for teacher flexible working. With 10% leaving annually, change is needed. We found it's complex but achievable with whole-school approaches and strong leadership.

Time to challenge the myth that part-time work means lower quality. The number of hours worked doesn't define good quality. The skills, expertise and dedication a person brings does. Read more: https://timewise.co.uk/article/a-question-of-time-whats-happening-with-part-time-working-in-the-uk/

Can flex help prevent staff burnout in the childcare sector? - Timewise 4 in 10 early years educators are leaving the sector for good. Pay and progression are known issues. Now it’s time to start looking at working pattern, too.

🧸 From this week, 9-month-olds are eligible for funded childcare in England. Transformative for families IF we have staff to deliver it. However 70% of providers lack capacity due to staff shortages. Flexible working could help fill half the shortfall.

Making construction a great place to work: one year on - Timewise One year after the completion of our Construction Pioneer Programme, we review what has changed, and what’s next.

🚨 Construction needs 240k workers in 5 years but here's the real problem: "recruits 200k/year, loses 200k/year". It’s a recruitment AND retention issue. Our pilots proved flexible working cuts turnover & boosts productivity WITHOUT impacting delivery: timewise.co.uk/article/maki...

Why fixing the social care crisis starts with flexible working - Timewise Despite the staffing crisis in social care, few have asked care workers what would help – until now. Here’s the lowdown.

With growing demand, is this social care crisis fixable? What else should be done? We asked the people who know - the care workers themselves. Read our findings:

@oonaghsmyth.bsky.social, CEO of Skills for Care, points out, "it's still three times that of the wider economy. And the data show that we’ll still need 470,000 more posts by 2040, so all of us in adult social care need to stay focused on workforce issues."

@skillsforcare.bsky.social‬ reports that vacancies in social care have dropped to 7% (from 10.5% in 2021/22), but challenges remain - rates are still 3x higher than the wider economy.
