If there aren't at least 12,000 Ramones-style pop punk songs titled "Antifa Girlfriend" by this weekend, we have failed as a society.

Join me in my Happy Place with many of my favorite people. Gamehole Con is amazing and inclusive, and Connor gives excellent panels. Also, Madison is a charming town in October. Come see what the fuss is about!

I assume they'll be using a "(Death) Panel of Experts" prompting technique? Ghouls.

Remembering the time when the opposition party effectively used twee little signs to defeat rising American authoritarianism. Inspirational.

This grotesque and evil ruling seeks to erase trans identities and remove federal harassment protections from queer folks. Traveling across this shithole country is gonna be that much less safe for my husband and me.

These are kids who will never pay taxes. They'll never hold a
job. They'll never play baseball. They'Il never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date. They'll never use a toilet unassisted.

If enough beach-goers begin shouting "WHY IS THERE STILL A SHARK EATING US", then the sheriff can (and should) point the mob at the Mayor and the business leaders. Sorta what Schumer seems to be aiming for, I guess, but without a solid plan or conviction.

A strategy that includes letting the government shut down would require strong, consistent messaging from Ds. Rs fear their base but can get away with this as long as blame centers on Ds. Shifting the blame (and death threats) to Rs *might* encourage them to push back.

Was pleased to see House Ds in solidarity on this. Shame the Senate Ds lacked the same discipline. Thanks for your part, Congresswoman.

Per the video, the plan is "unify all D votes and add some R votes" (because bipartisanship has worked so well of late). And the Senate needs to act. Oh and stories.

Nothing that acknowledges the moment. Rs get death threats when they bipartisan, so good luck with all that.

Hope it works out πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

The American people deserve more than a Progressive who fears rocking the boat. You sat and watched Al Greene get bullied by fascists and did nothing but silently wave a wee sign (leaving early while careful not to disrupt the spewing of lies you mention.) Shame on you and the rest of the House.

Sure we can have a little justice, as a treat.

That lingering bitter taste? That's the Trump-appointed judge lamenting Obergefell as the law of the land, practically begging for it to be challenged, Γ  la Thomas.

But for now, a treat.

So this is what they've got for meeting the autocrats head-on? Tepid little signs and color-coded outfits?

In order for this sort of nonsense to work at all, the cameras need to be on you the entire time. Producers/editors need something that *sells*. Like an Al Greene-style display. This ain't it.

"The law ends 18 years of protection against discrimination based on gender identity in Iowa's civil rights law."

How many recorded assaults BY trans folks happened in that time? How many assaults ON them?

Just the strongest Fuck You to Gov. Reynolds and anyone who supports this horseshit.

Dem politicians need to amp up the language and lean into all available rhetorical tools and techniques at their disposal. You can't shame the Rs, but you can fire up their constituents. These centrist calls for bipartisanship have rarely worked; time for a change in tactics.

Senator Murray has been, generally, a boon to our state. Her set of skills have served the nation and our state well. Sadly, these skills are not what is needed to combat the unfolding coup and our decent into full autocracy.

We need more than just tut-tutting a lack of bipartisan participation.

Oh yes, tut-tut.

It's incredibly disappointing that the standard rhetoric is still being used in these dangerously unstable times. Maybe you can ask one of the Cabinet members you voted for to help pressure the Republicans for you?

Tut-tut.

Watching the country become a vicious police state while my elected representatives bemoan the cost of eggs and the tax burden on the middle class.

The old Dem playbooks are the wrong tools for this crisis. We've seen the Rs wield power effectively from the minority and know that it's possible.

What, exactly, is a liberal voter in a Blue state living in a district represented by Congresswoman Jayapal supposed to do about this? Your colleagues on the other side of the aisle have made it clear that our voices do not matter and will not sway them. That's their whole brand.

Your comms suck.

I get that Dems writing stern letters is a necessary part of our system of governance (important to get stuff in the record for court cases, posterity, and so on.) But if that's all that your elected representatives are doing, I'd argue they don't have the political chops needed in a crisis moment.

I'm sure not comfortable with this rhetorical tut-tutting while every level of civic society is dismantled by unelected goons.

Sadly, what I'm hearing from you is that you're as politically powerless as we are in this moment.

I'll remember this when you ask to be given this job again.
