Goro fits a chair under a doorknob in a dark, dreary room. The door is already locked shut with multiple types of locks and bars. To Goro's left on the wall is a poster with a smiling face that says 'Be Happy!' There is another poster below which reads: 'Rules: 1) Wish your way to happiness. 2) If happiness is elusive, review the orientation material.'

Ren tackles Goro while Goro holds a smoking gun. The Phantom Thieves in pajamas look on in horror.

Ren and Goro sit on a bed in a cozy bedroom. On a nearby desk is a Jack Frost plush. Hanging on the wall are several posters: a Phantom Thieves poster, an advertisement for the Jazz Jin, and a poster of Mona looking dour with 'Hang in there Mona' written beneath him. Ren is in his pajamas and Goro is in his Metaverse costume, sans helmet and one of his gauntlets. Ren's hand covers Goro's bare hand on the bed as he looks at him with an adoring expression, and Goro smiles without looking back at him.

Joker stands over Goro. Joker is holding his knife and has a look of shock on his face. Below him, Goro is mostly covered up by the broken helmet on his head, multiple wires coming out the top of it. The small hint of clothes Goro is wearing looks suspiciously like his Detective Prince blazer.

In all seriousness I never thought I would end up writing novel-length fics or learning bookbinding to preserve and celebrate my favs but all things become possible through this incredible and insane fandom. This is my first time participating in a zine and I'm so honored to be part of a project with such talented creators! Lately I've mostly been reading contemporary/literary fiction recced by friends -- I'm currently working my way through The Three-Body Problem! “Do you regret it?” Ren says quietly. He can’t go a second longer without knowing. He’s probably not ready to hear it, and he doesn’t have a clue what he plans to do once he does. Try to forget about it, maybe; let it slide again and pretend like it makes no difference to him. Goro doesn’t answer. Definitely a bad sign. Whatever. It’s fine. Ren goes for the ball that Goro had left stranded and taps it carefully into a pocket. The thunk it makes is somehow unsatisfying. “Guess I’ll take solids,”; he mutters. None of the other possible shots he could take look appealing, so— “There were... moments where I thought I did,” Goro says haltingly. “There was doubt. But my resolve was stronger.” Of course it was, because Goro doesn’t fucking know the meaning of giving up. He’d literally rather die. Ren selects his next target—the four ball—and slams it across the table, just to make something happen. Nothing does, except more chaos. Goro circles slowly around to the other side and regards him with that proud tilt of his chin, then pointedly turns his attention back to the table as the balls roll to a stop. “So... no, I don’t regret it. You of all people should know better than to expect me to.” Of course. Of course. It’s impossible to pass his test and be worthy of his regret. It’s always been impossible. Ren really is a fool for wanting him.

Choosing a favorite book feels impossible, but I'm torn between Heartsong by TJ Klune and The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix. Favorite fic tropes tend to be things like kissing as a distraction, forced proximity, and when a character with absolutely nothing gets utterly doted on and pampered. In the bitter cold of January, Crow was brutal in all senses of the word. His crimson, serrated blade steamed with shadow blood, hissing and spitting just as much as him whenever the two were forced to lick their wounds in a safe room. “Fucking shit.” Crow knocked his head back against the once-pristine chaise. “Good to know you’re bad at something, at least.” Ren gave one final tug to his thread. A corner of Crow’s skin cinched together with the thread’s knot. “Aw, you think I’m good at everything?” “Your suturing skills need work,” Crow huffed. “It never hurt when I did it.” “That, my friend, is called adrenaline and trauma.” Ren hooked a finger into the outer layer of his nylon gloves, carefully turning them inside out and tossing them aside before holding a fresh hand out to Crow. Crow rolled his eyes, gripping his offered hand more gruffly than necessary. Ren held fast, anticipating the rough jolt. “I prefer calling it survival instincts. And maybe nerve damage.” “Well, Mr. Nerve Damage, we’re running low on good healing spells, so this’ll have to do.”
