About the only thing defenders can do is "pull the chair" move. Especially when ball handler is driving and holds out their arm to push the defender which also help slow the ball handler down. If the defender backs out of the way, ball handler loses balance with no impediment to bash into or shove.

Exactly. I've been really annoyed with it. From shoving or using an arm bar to bash in and move players aside. It's something I believe should be called an offensive foul more, but the league has routinely allowed it over the last couple years.
