Iron Man 3 is a high point in the MCU that takes on a darker tone whilst still remembering to be fun. Downey Jr is at his best as Stark within a film that has a sharp script, excellent action scenes and grounded themes of anxiety and PTSD that are handled in a very sincere way. boxd.it/cZSJA7

Sometimes all I need from a horror film is a stupid plot, a synth score, and people being killed in inventive and over-the-top gory ways with practical effects, and that’s EXACTLY what Primate gave me! Such a fun time! boxd.it/cZpEJZ

A ★★★½ review of Thor: The Dark World (2013) The Road to Doomsday I don’t know if it’s because I watched this back to back with the awful The Amazing Spider-Man, but upon this rewatch, I actually think this silly sequel is better than the first ...

Thor: The Dark World is a fun mess that has some of the best early MCU humour, Hemsworth’s first GREAT performance as the titular character, the design for the villains is cheesy and charming, and a tonne of entertaining melodrama within the fantasy side of things. boxd.it/cZcFy3

Whilst there are some great performances, sleek and stylish cinematography, and brilliant action scenes, The Amazing Spider-Man is a mostly dull and boring film with a bafflingly bad lead performance grom Andrew Garfield, unfunny humour, and abysmal pacing. boxd.it/cZ8Bddb

Although it’s less impressive than a lot of what follows it and the cinematography borders on looking like a SyFy TV show, The Avengers holds up as a fun time with a lot of great set pieces. It fully manages to make the buildup of Phase One worth while. boxd.it/cYcUG3

Thor is an incredibly average film, it’s not awful but it’s nothing amazing and it works best during its fish-out-of-water scenes. It does a brilliant job of building its world and characters whilst providing just the right amount of setup for Avengers Assemble without overdoing it. boxd.it/cY999Z

The Incredible Hulk takes itself way too seriously, has a lot of great ideas but is let down by bad pacing, hideous CGI and borderline comical performances. However, there are still a lot of things to like especially with its standout action scenes being some of the best in Phase One. boxd.it/cXsi65

Iron Man 2 is a throwaway film with throwaway villains, a filler film that feels as though it only exists to connect to Avengers Assemble. It has its entertaining moments, but it’s also not good at all, and it completely misunderstands what made the first film work so well. boxd.it/cXnyvb

Iron Man does a great job of changing things up for Marvel films at a time when a change was needed, & it holds up really well. It looks great, the sound design is great, and Downey Jr is brilliant in the lead role. It’s not my favourite MCU film, but it’s up there as one of the best boxd.it/cXhIO1

Nouvelle Vague is a fantastic film that delves into the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless in such a compelling way. A ★★★★ review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) The Road to Doomsday There’s a valid argument to be had for Spider-Man 2 being the greatest superhero film ever made, so to follow that is no easy task. Spider-Man 3 was never going to outdo it, but i...

Spider-Man 3 is a film that only gets better with each rewatch. Sure, it’s bloated and tries to fit too much into its runtime, but it still has the charm and heart of the previous two films, it brings things full circle, and it’s so camp too! A great end to a great trilogy! boxd.it/cTYNFX

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer suffers from the same issues as its predecessor as well as creating its own issues but it’s still a lot of camp & silly dumb fun, it’s slightly more fun than the first film and channels more of the Saturday morning cartoon energy of said film. boxd.it/cTcM0t

A great example of how not to end a trilogy. X-Men: The Last Stand has a bland score, horrific CGI, baffling decisions with removing multiple main characters within the first half, & the constant ability to rush things, taking away the depth with the allegories of the first two films. boxd.it/cT6XX5

Fantastic Four often feels like a mix between a Saturday morning cartoon and a typical noughties comedy. It’s not awful, it’s not good and I don’t hate it; it’s certainly not the worst of pre-MCU Marvel, but I’m also not in a rush to rewatch it again anytime soon. boxd.it/cT3w13

Blade: Trinity is a disastrous end to what was shaping up to be an incredible trilogy. Having Dracula as the villain was ambitious, it could’ve made for something great, instead, we’re given wooden performances, abysmal dialogue & awful pacing that makes for a very dull & boring film boxd.it/cSFGCP

One of the greatest superhero films ever made and a great example of how to make the perfect film within this subgenre, Spider-Man 2 has it all & balances it all perfectly. It’s a sincere film about depression with clever allegories balanced inbetween all of the action on display boxd.it/cSjwUv

Jennifer Garner tries her absolute best amongst many flat performances from the rest of the cast in this disastrous spin-off that really could’ve been something great if it had a better script and director. Elektra is one big boring mess and I’m glad I never have to watch it again. boxd.it/cSaJWh

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, much like its predecessor, is another high point in this franchise, with DaCosta taking what Boyle set up so well previously, utilising it and doing her own thing to create something bold, weird and so intense. I loved this sequel! boxd.it/cQsnc5

Daredevil (Director's Cut) is a gloriously cheesy comic book movie that tries to go for dark and moody, and mostly achieves camp instead.
