anyway i haven't thought of that in years, and now i've just gone and made myself sad. what the hell!

He died in 2013 (lung cancer, STOP SMOKING), and though i didn't see it when we were cleaning out the house, I'd like to think he still had it even then, even though he was never the sentimental type.

i just remembered a christmas gift i had gotten my dad one year. i got it in elementary school (90's) from our yearly "santa store" and it was a purple folding hairbrush that said #1 Dad. Super cheesy and corny! but it stayed in our bathroom drawer until he had a new house, where it moved with him.

I've been thinking of this scene since I read it. I'm so obsessed with them!

Screenshot from a WIP: The drive home through the annoying crawl of rush hour traffic is frustrating, but Mingjue eventually makes it to his apartment, having only honked a total of fifteen times or so at the idiots around him. Baxia greets him at the door, and, despite having over seven years of experience with her, Mingjue still leans down and tries to pet her. The cat hisses and swats at his hand, as expected. Mean as ever, she growls at Mingjue before trotting off towards the kitchen. Huaisang calls her “the evil spirit that lives with da-ge” for a reason, but there is one person whom she won’t attack on sight. Somehow or another, Lan Xichen managed to worm his way into Baxia’s stony little heart immediately after meeting her. A few days after Mingjue rescued the scrawny, sickly kitten off the street, it was clear that friendship was a lost cause. The kitten wouldn’t let Mingjue anywhere near her unless he had treats, and even then, she always took the opportunity to bite him. She was similarly nasty to Huaisang, but when Xichen came over…

After glaring at Mingjue for a solid thirty seconds, Baxia went straight over to where Xichen was sitting, sniffed his leg, then jumped up into his lap. Mingjue had instantly shot to his feet, ready to withstand a storm of claws and teeth in order to save his beloved from being mauled—but he froze when he heard an unfamiliar sound. Baxia was purring. She headbutted Xichen’s chest, nuzzling against his shirt and chewing on the buttons. After recovering from his shock, Xichen slowly brought a hand up to pet her, gingerly stroking the orange and black fur along her back. Baxia began to march in place, kneading Xichen’s thighs, and while he wasn’t looking, she glared at Mingjue as if to say, Don’t you wish you could touch him like this? Sighing, Mingjue follows her to the kitchen. She yowls loudly while he’s scooping her food as if he’s going to fucking forget what he’s doing. “Quiet, you!” he snaps.

Finally, I have to ask specifically about Jinu's (Ahn Hyo-Seop) design. When he was introduced and lifted his head, I definitely gasped a little. What was most important for you to portray in this character? Appelhans: My wife is Korean, and she introduced me to Korean dramas 20 years ago. And so I have lived through the experience of having your first male lead blow your socks off so many times. Because a good one, when he shows up on the scene, he has that moment and you're just like, "Ahh!" The guy from Vincenzo, I saw a few clips [and was like,] "I don't get this guy. He's not doing it for me." And then there was finally the scene where he's walking up to somebody in slow-mo like, "Oh, it happened! There it is, he's doing it!" Maggie and I both instantly knew we wanted to have Jinu do that. It was actually a shot that at the very last minute, we added some more frames at the end. They're like, you don't have any more time or any more animation quota, you're done. We're just begging, like, "Please, can you guys just squeeze — get one animated for half a day and add another half a second so we can linger on that look." And that was the difference between getting butterflies and not. It's one of those, if you know you know.
